General description:

Educational virtual campaign at the national level through the production of digital information brochures on the measures to be taken in the face of an epileptic crisis in the out-of-hospital setting, with the aim of training and providing the future doctor and the population in general with the necessary knowledge that allows recognize a patient in crisis and that this can solve the situation while it comes to specialized help.

Brochures will be prepared that contain the steps to follow in the face of a crisis, as well as those erroneous behaviors that should not be done in these cases, they will be published on May 24 International Day of Epilepsy with the support of the following labels: #IsAConditionNotADisease #NeverBeAlone

Problem statement:

Epilepsy is a brain disorder in which your cells transmit signals in an abnormal way in frequency and intensity.

Epilepsy is a nosological entity that occurs between 0.5-1% of the population, although the probability of presenting an epileptic seizure rises to 5% of the general population. Since in most cases these crises can occur anywhere the medical staff or the person who is present at the time during the crisis, should know and be trained to act in these cases.

Objectives and indicators of success:

– General Objective: Prepare consensual recommendations for the performance of health personnel and the general public in the face of an epileptic seizure in an out-of-hospital environment. As well as determine the steps to follow to avoid possible complications and guarantee an adequate quality of care.

– Specific Objectives:

o Recognize when a person is in an epileptic crisis.

o Train health personnel and the population in general on what measures to take in the face of a crisis in the community setting outside the hospital.

o Determine what behaviors are wrong when acting in the face of an epileptic crisis.

o Know and avoid as much as possible the complications derived from an epileptic crisis.

– Success Indicators:

o Number of virtual educational campaigns published in the social networks of local societies.

o Number of digital brochures made by local officials.

o Number of trainings carried out by local societies.

o Level of knowledge acquired by medical students and by the general public.

o Reception of the virtual campaign by the medical students of the country.

Methodology:

– Establish the problem, the objectives to be addressed, the specific issues which should be developed and the group of beneficiaries.

– Development of the advertising flyer of the activity “Your Neurons Can Dance Too”.

– Realization and revision of the material (brochures) prepared by the local officials that will be used for the campaign.

– Training of medical students and the population in general on the management of an epileptic crisis.

– Publication in the social networks of FEVESOCEM and the local societies of the different visual materials prepared on May 24th, International Day of Epilepsy.

Plans for evaluation:

The monitoring of the activity carried out by the LOME according to what is established in the guidelines that were sent to each one of them, will be done through consecutive revisions of the visual material that will be published in social networks, in order to have a feedback and be directed to the local official for the development of the activity, after that the evaluation of the activity will be done through the graphic evidence (brochures and photographs) of the different campaigns made by local societies.
