Type of the activity: Campaign. Combination of education and advocacy. Campaigns create awareness in society about a certain topic (education aspect) and try to funnel this awareness into pressure on the decision makers to adapt policies accordingly (advocacy aspect).

General description:

“According to Global Report of AIDS Epidemic reported by UNAIDS in 2008 citing AIDS in Indonesia as one of the fastest growing in Asia. And data from the Ministry of Health said that, in 2015 there were more of 730,000 AIDS sufferers. DI Yogyakarta itself reported in March 2016 1314 AIDS cases and 3334 HIV cases with the largest percentage in the age group 20-29 years. Thus, adolescents and young adults are important keys in controlling prevention of HIV transmission.

The event was held to provide knowledge to the public and medical students , especially UGM students regarding comprehensive HIV knowledge and related risk factors, transmission, and early detection as needed with the experience meeting directly with PLWHA and also reducing the stigma and discrimination against PLWHA starting with CIMSA members; increase public awareness about HIV / AIDS and reducing the stigma circulating in the community; and facilitating key populations by screening VCT tests to detect HIV / AIDS.”

Objectives and indicators of success:

“Goals:

Adding community insight into HIV / AIDS and reducing stigma and discrimination of PLWHA by holding VCT tests, campaigns and talk shows with the attendance of SCORA CIMSA UGM members as much as > 75% and tests VCT is attended by a minimum of 30 people.

Objectives:

1. Providing knowledge to the public and medical students , especially UGM students regarding comprehensive HIV knowledge and related risk factors, transmission, and early detection as needed.

2. Providing CIMSA members with the experience of meeting directly with PLWHA and also reducing the stigma and discrimination against PLWHA starting with CIMSA members.

3. Increasing public awareness about HIV / AIDS and reducing the stigma circulating in the community.

4. Facilitating key populations by screening VCT tests to detect HIV / AIDS

Success Indicator:

1. Communities understand about HIV / AIDS related to risk factors, transmission, and detection early needed.

2. About 75% of SCORA CIMSA members attend the event.

3. min. 30 people join VCT”

Methodology:

“The event started with Voluntary and Counseling Test for early screening of HIV disease in collaboration with the Clinic Adhiwarga PKBI Yogyakarta. The program continued with film screenings short with HIV / AIDS themes made by members and involves SCORA member as an actor from the short film. This movie tells about someone’s anxiety about his HIV status and fear of admitting due to stigma and still being discriminated against strongly felt in the community.

Grand lecture by Dr. Silvy from the UKDW Tropical Disease Department which discusses the disease and the spread of HIV itself in Yogyakarta, then from Victory Plus which discusses views of community towards PLWHA from the side of HIV sufferers and the UNALA discuss the rights of PLWHA. And there was also a speaker from the person with HIV/AIDS that gives us many perspective from the sufferers”

“Based on our success indicator

1. The understanding of the community measured by by the activeness in the talkshow

2. SCORA Member were counted and it is more than 75% attending the event

3. 50 participants joined the VCT test”
