General description:

World AIDS Day 2017 campaign by SCORA-Rwanda was organised and put in place to raise awareness on HIV/AIDS prevention, early screening and staying on medications if positive for the Huye community ,with the aim to reduce HIV/AIDS rate in our community and teach the youth .

Focus area:

Prevention of all STIs or are specific STIs, STI testing, Removing stigmatization and empowering people living with HIV, Raising awareness among the general public about STIs, Ensuring access to treatment for people living with HIV or other STIs

Problem statement:

In our society ,there is a problem of stigmatization of people living with HIV/AIDS and STIs and lack of check up of people to know whether or not they are sick. There is also not enough education on sexual life and HIV/AIDS prevention.

Target groups and beneficiaries:

The people living in Huye district

Objectives and indicators of success:

-Raise awareness on HIV/AIDS prevention through educating 200 people living in Huye district on the 1st december 2017,using effective sound system; with the help of 20 medical student volunteers.
-HIV/AIDS free screening to 200 people living in Huye district on the 1st December 2017,with the help of HDI(Health Development Initiative); which will provide 6 nurses for that cause.
-Carry out campaign walk from Mberabyombi to Huye market,being 100 medical student volunteers on the 1st December 2017; to raise awareness and encourage people to come for HIV/AIDS free screening

Methodology:

-Raising awareness on HIV/AIDS prevention will be done using fliers provided by HDI(Health Development Initiative) and condom distribution by 20 medical student volunteers to the population living in Huye district on the 1st December 2017.
-HIV/AIDS free screening to 200 people living in Huye district at Mberabyombi after the campaign walk on the 1st December 2017,with the help of HDI(Health Development Initiative); which will provide 6 nurses for that cause and after the screening a report will be done by the activity coordinator and his team.
-Carry out campaign walk from Mberabyombi to Huye market,being 100 university student volunteers on the 1st December 2017; to raise awareness and encourage people to come for HIV/AIDS free screening using a truck with some music and speakers inviting people to come for screening and a big banner addressing the activity.

 

Plans for evaluation:

-We will evaluate our activity using data analysis and follow up. We will do a report afterwards to send to our sponsors and supporters.
-we were planning to screen 200 people and we finally screened 178 people and the result were the following:
*only one person was found to be HIV-positive and 177 were found to be HIV-negative.
-We distributed 100 boxes of condoms to 200 people who were walking in the street during the campaign walk.
-We counselled 250 people in the street during the campaign and encouraged them to come for the screening .Some were going for it and other only getting condoms.
