General description:

The capacity building training organised by MEDSAR-SCORA was intended for university of Rwanda students to increase the skills and capacity for students and the youth. To be able to go out there and teach on HIV/AIDS and STIs prevention and condom use in their native language,as a way to raise awareness on HIV/AIDS and STIs prevention.

Focus area:

Prevention of all STIs or are specific STIs, Raising awareness among the general public about STIs, STI education or training for future health-care professions, STIs and HIV/AIDS political advocacy

Problem statement:

There was lack of knowledge of how HIV/AIDS can be prevented in our native language, how to advocate for HIV/AIDS prevention and how to use condoms and existing laws and rights on sexual and reproductive health by health care related students and even non-medical students.

Target groups and beneficiaries:

University of Rwanda students

Objectives and indicators of success:

-Teach HIV/AIDS prevention and existing laws and rights on sexual and reproductive health in our native language to 250 university of Rwanda students on 29th November; with the help of an SFH(Society for Family Health ) trainer and a representative from the government council.
-This was so achievable as we had the support from the university of Rwanda and many university students were interested and they attended the capacity building workshop.

-We used the main auditorium of the school of medicine and pharmacy for the workshop and discussions, demonstrations and group talks were used to make the workshop productive and more enjoyeable.

Plans for evaluation:

-We used follow up and data analysis for evaluation, where we witnessed many volunteers being empowered afterwards and joining the main event campaign walk on the 1st December and teaching on HIV/AIDS prevention and condom use in their native language.
