WONCA Policy Bite!

In September 2017, IFMSA and THEnet published the Students’ Toolkit on Social Accountability, an interactive document consisting of 18 pages with definitions, questions to ask, explanations of social accountability assessment as well as usage of the results. During the Toolkit’s development, WONCA played a vital role in reviewing and providing valuable input which significantly improved the quality of the final product.

Since September, IFMSA has established a Small Working Group focused entirely on the Toolkit’s Implementation and its dissemination across our members’ network. A global survey was initiated in December, based on the assessment tool of the Toolkit, and primary results are expected to be presented during our March Meeting General Assembly 2018. This was made possible because of passionate IFMSA members and of course, the valuable aid of organizations such as THEnet and WONCA.

WONCA has had a strong commitment towards Social Accountability and engagement of students and young doctors in its implementation. The very first Policy Bite of 2018 was devoted to the IFMSA/THEnet Students’ Toolkit on Social Accountability, emphasizing this commitment anew and headlining the new year for WONCA.

We would like to thank WONCA for all their support and for their recognition of the Toolkit’s quality and take this opportunity to encourage our members, once more, to read through the document and take advantage of its resources to advocate for more socially accountable medical curricula.

We encourage you to read and share the policy bite, which is also available in Spanish.
