WAMTE 2013 – Workshop on Access to Medical Training in Europe

WAMTE is a young initiative directed to 50 young medical students from the 27 member states of European Union to discuss access to medical training and the organization of the training itself. Also, it intends to evaluate the mobility of young doctors across Europe. The constraints to youth mobility and the proposal of solutions to overcome them will be the main focus of WAMTE in order to build a public database with the different types of access to medical training in Europe and also to compile the proposals discussed to be sent then to European governments.

PorMSIC – Portuguese Medical Student International Committee will be hosting the second edition of this project, that will take place in Almada (Lisbon) for 5 days, between 22nd and 26th July of 2013 and will also discuss mobility outside Europe.

We will have four main plenary session: On the first day, discussion will be on “Access to Medical Internships”, where Dr. Pedro Gomes, delegate from European Junior Doctors will give us a broad prespective of Medical Education.

On the second day, “Mobility and Recognition in Europe and European Directive 2005/36/CE” will be discussed, with the orientation of Dr. Madalena Patrício, President of AMEE.

The third plenary session shall be about “Mobility and Recognition Beyond European Boundaries” where Dr. David Gordon, member of WFME will focus on mobility and migration.

On the last day, a final plenary session will host a discussion about the main conclusions of the Small Working Groups (SWGs) developed throughout WAMTE.

Social Programs and Side Events have not been forgoten, and WAMTE participants will have the opportunity to get to know Lisbon, by day and by night; attend workshops on skills such as communication, leadership, and entrepreneurship; participate no wake-up sessions and, obviously, organise the traditional National Food and Drink Party.
