Name of the activity: Videoconferences Pre CIRIS (Regional Interdisciplinary Research and Service Camp)

Country/NMO: Colombia (ASCEMCOL)

Program: Teaching Medical Skills

Contact information: [email protected]

Type of the activity: Education

General description:

The activity aims to promote reviews of specific topics, in this way we can implement a national medicine apprenticeship and as an extra, we will prepare the medical students that attend the medical camp, using the technology for the realization of it. The speakers in charge of the videoconference will be from each local association of ASCEMCOL, and thus they will be able to teach Colombia how certain diseases are treated in their universities. All this is done thinking about the future of the students, so that when they make exchanges or attend another medical camp they have a general knowledge of medicine.

Focus area:

Maternal and Child Health Clinical Skills

Problem statement:

Through the development of this activity, we seek to improve medical education on specific topics for the general medical community and for those who attend the interdisciplinary regional research and service camp. The main problem with which we want to work with this activity is the lack of information on topics such as gynecology, pediatrics and the pre-events of poor medical preparation.

Target groups and beneficiaries:

General medical community and in special for those whose are attending the interdisciplinary regional research and service camp.

Objectives and indicators of success:

Primary Objectives:
-Instruct attendees at CIRIS on relevant medical issues. For this, taking into account the population to which they will attend, the most important topics have been selected to generate an optimal knowledge.

Indicators of success: A test will be carried out each videoconference to see if we are really teaching and the objective of training was achieved. (If 10 of the post-test questions of each video conference, 50% answer 5 or more questions correctly).
At the end of the camp there will be a self-assessment test about the activity, taking into account if the videoconferences were useful, in order to know what we should improve and what we can emphasize for future activities.

Secondary Objectives:
– Encourage medical students of ASCEMCOL and FELSOCEM to conduct research, providing the space to learn more about the diseases they will face.
-To promote medical education and encourage other students to participate in our committee.

Indicators of success: The number of research protocols that were sent to the camp will be taken into account and the number of protocols sent if 13 are made will be a success.

Methodology:

We have researched the population that the students will attend in the medical camp, and in the same way we ask the assistants to gather information about the topics they need and feel that their knowledge is weak. With this we prepare the videoconferences with themes of pediatrics and gynecology, these topics have been distributed among the LOME that wish to participate. The videoconferences will be developed from November 27, 2017 until approximately December 12 of the same year. People who attend 70% of the videoconferences will obtain certificates of attendance. The videoconferences will last between 30 and 45 minutes, and will be taught by a graduate doctor specialized in the subject or by an advanced student of semi-annual medicine. At the end of each video conference, there will be a test on the subject seen, which will give us tangible results to know the impact that is generated in each student. Likewise, once the medical camp is finished, the assistants must complete a form in which they make a feedback regarding the teaching that we provide them through SCOME.

Plans for evaluation:

The results of the activity will be based on the initial interest in the subject of videoconferencing, attendance and reception by the public. At the end of the talk, the participants will be asked to complete a form and a questionnaire using Google forms, so we can make comments and know how they felt about the talk, what they learned and how they used what they learned. their growth as professionals in the area of health. In addition, at the end of the regional interdisciplinary research and service camp, the assistants will be asked to complete a final form, in which we will know if the additional preparation we gave them was useful for them.
