November 17th 2014, Prague – The International Federation of Medical Students Associations (IFMSA), the International Association of Dental Students (IADS) and the International Pharmaceutical Students Federation (IPSF) are proud to announce the official implementation signing of the World Health Students Alliance (WHSA).
The WHSA is a coalition of international health student-run organizations aiming to strengthen interdisciplinary healthcare-related advocacy; to commonly contribute to the advancement of global health; and to develop and implement improved health policies together with multisectorial stakeholders. The Alliance has a reach-out capacity of over 1.8 million health students in more than 100 countries worldwide.
We hope that through this united effort, the knowledge and competence of healthcare students worldwide will be acknowledge for the advancement of global health. – Agostinho Sousa, IFMSA President
Since 1941, November 17th is recognized as the International Students Day, commemorating the day students and professors from Charles University in Prague were killed without a legal trial. This day highlights the role of students as agents of change and advocates of sustainable progress. For the founding members of the WHSA, this day symbolizes the importance of promoting the participation and empowerment of young people and students as key stakeholders in health development. The WHSA hence offers a meaningful working space for the health students to promote greater youth participation.
” We strongly believe that students must be involved in the delivery and quality of healthcare alongside other professional health and governmental organizations.” – Petra Horkov, IADS President
Modern healthcare is highly specialised discipline which calls for synergic cooperation of various healthcare professionalists together in order to improve the health of patients and thus of populations around the world. Hence, the founding members of the WHSA are confident the Alliance will effectively and collaboratively work to answer this need for the best interests of the patients.
We believe that collaboration between healthcare students can ensure a good development of care for the future. – Parand Akhavan, IPSF President
