• Matters that treat medical malpractice (by Dr. Sófocles Haro).

• Where there will be an ethical analysis to know more about medical practice: its history, where it comes from, when this term is used, how it is defined, and the requirements to carry out a good practice, what is a medical malpractice and implies ethical responsibility of the doctor.

The second phase will be case studies in Ecuador, where we can address (by Dr. Paúl Carvajal) cases from our country as:

• A young mother died after alleged malpractice in Guayaquil clinic (2018)

• Prosecutor’s Office ordered substitute measures to private clinic owner linked to the crime of harm to users (2017)

• A sit-in at the Ministry of Health against the private clinic of Quito (2017)

Focus area:

Human Rights for Medical Professionals in daily clinical settings

Problem statement:

In the period from March 2011 to March 2012, the number of cases reported by Mala Praxis was 54, however, none of them had a sentence and about 60% of the plaintiffs withdrew the accusation, so the cases were not followed up. In this area, an intense debate has been generated in Ecuador, in which alternative solutions for one of the most relevant problems in the health field are sought, known as “Mala Praxis”.
