General description:

The amazing race: Orienteering competition on World AIDS Day (2018) was an activity held by WMSA (a LC in IFMSA-China) on the 1st Dec 2018 to motivate more students to get involved in the campaign of HIV/AIDS as well as to let them know more about HIV/AIDS. We had a complete procedure to hold the activity and we had pre-evaluation and post-evaluation to evaluate the activity. As a result, the activity was popular among competitors, and competitors gained a lot from the game. We received lots of positive feedback. And this activity is considered to be the normal activity on the World AIDS Day and we’ll continuously revise the game for better experience.

Focus area:

Raising awareness among the general public about STIs

Problem statement:

According to news report, there’s an increasing number of students in university are infected HIV for their ignorance of knowledge related to HIV/AIDS. Without proper education, students in university nowadays are more likely to suffer from dangerous sexual experience. Therefore, they need multiple activities to be aware of the fact associated with HIV/AIDS.

Target groups:

General population, Medical students, Healthcare Students, Other Students, Children, Youth

Beneficiaries:

General population, Medical students, Healthcare Students, Other Students, Doctors, Other health professionals, Children, Youth

Objectives and indicators of success:

1. Let students from various major gain knowledge related to HIV/AIDS

success indicators: The knowledge is set as clue or mission during the competition, students need to know the correct answer so that they could “survive” in the game. And all correct answer was released after the game.

2. Motivate students from various major to spread information related to HIV/AIDS

success indicators: After the game, if there are more students use HIV language which is a non-discrimination way to express information about HIV/AIDS.

Methodology:

We achieve our objectives by holding the activity as well as educating.

1.Before the game, we did publicity working by pitching in the school, and on the spot, we educated students correct knowledge about HIV/AIDS. And if they were interested in the activity, they could check in and joined the Tencent QQ group.

2.During the game, the knowledge about HIV/AIDS as well as HIV language derived from IFMSA were set as the mission or clue, and this would effect competitors during the game.

3.And absolutely, students in the game didn’t know all the answer. So after the game, we released the correct answers and told them why that answer was better.

Plans for evaluation:

We released our pre-evaluation and post-evaluation to competitors, co-organizer and people in the local committee who got involved in the activity in questionnaire. And we gave them different questions which related to the activity in the questionnaire. For example, to competitors, we asked them for feedback, also, and the knowledge they gained from the game.

After evaluation, the outcome is better than the expectancy we had before the game. The competitors thought they got a lot of knowledge about HIV/AIDS and would like to share it with others in their lives after the game. What’s more, they’d like to get involved in this game next time without hesitation! So compared to statistics in pre-evaluation, those in post-evaluation had a significant promotion.

The co-organizes thought they had great experience ever in collaboration with us. And every detail was under consideration.

Also, we collected the thoughts from those who were in local committee for a better game next time!
