Team meeting before the WHA action

As the IFMSA team was gathering in Geneva from all over, all of the worlds top health politicians and decisions makers were doing the same. Over the course of this week and next week, the World Health Assembly will aim to adopt resolutions on health systems and health workforce strengthening, non-communicable diseases and the WHO HIV/AIDS strategy. Controversial issues like classification of falsified medicines and the processes concerning the election of the Director-General will be discussed. Additionally, Youth and Health Risks is an agenda point, and is one of the two agenda points where the IFMSA will present an intervention.

Furthermore, the WHO is currently discussing it’s own role in global health governance and will be proposing reforms of the organization, how it works and how it relates to other stakeholders in global health. One of the proposed reforms is a World Health Forum to be held during the last quarter of 2012, where the WHO and stakeholders like Gates Foundation, GAVI, the Global Fund and the World Bank can convene.

The IFMSA team had a long strategic planning meeting were we decided how to utilize our efforts in the most effective way and try to create potential for our projects, intiatives and for the organization as whole. So wish us luck

We will in the coming days keep updating you on facebook, twitter and through this blog with all the action from the assembly and the work IFMSA will be doing. So stay tuned for more! 🙂
