Type of the activity: Capacity Building (Training or Workshop). Teaching and develop knowledge, skills and techniques in a particular field. While training can have any form, workshops are more formal and also include exchange of information between participants.
General description:
Basic surgical Skills workshop aims to provide hands on practice of basic surgical skills . The workshop is facilitated by Dr Abdullah Saeed (FCPS). main objective of this workshop is to make students capable of exhibiting skills that are required in medical emergencies,which include knot tying ,suturing ,bandages etc .

Problem statement:
“In developing countries like Pakistan ,where density of surgeons is very low .There is a need that every medical practitioner should be capable enough to execute these skills in case of medical emergencies.
It was also reported that about 43 % of medical practitioner claim that they have inadequate knowledge about basic surgical skills like suturing and tying etc “

Objectives and indicators of success:
“students will be able to learn following skills in 4 weeks:
1.How to give IM,IV and subcutaneous injections (improvement in giving injection)
2.Management of dislocation and fractures .(easily cope up with emergency situation)
3.knot tying
4.suturing
5.how to apply bandages and slings .”
The success of workshop will be indicated by a series of tests conducted after the workshop is concluded.
Methodology:
“It is workshop based activity .
First of all students will get briefing about first AID ,the basic surgical skills ,usage of surgical instruments ,followed by hands on practice of these skills and a series of post workshop tests to test the skills of the participants .”
Plans for evaluation:
Through Pre and post evaluation forms .Every student is asked to practice these skills in front of facilitator . No student get certified before that .
