Type of the activity: Campaign. Combination of education and advocacy. Campaigns create awareness in society about a certain topic (education aspect) and try to funnel this awareness into pressure on the decision makers to adapt policies accordingly (advocacy aspect).

General description:

the activity is carried out for the first time and aims to be constituted as an execution plan in the subsequent health brigades, in order to be able to provide day by day a greater contribution with the SDGs. The strategy consists of planting an estimated tree (10-30 depending on the terrain) in the city / municipality that will serve as a home for medical students during the days of assistance, offering thanks in part to the population for their reception, and on the other hand, to make the community aware of the need to take care of the plantations that are delivered to them, as well as those already available, emphasizing the benefits that this gives. In addition, it is provided that a joint activity with social leaders (mayors-personero) be performed in order to enroll them in the process and demonstrate the need to replicate these activities in nearby places, in prudent times and regulations.

Problem statement:

Given the location of the Municipality of Murillo (3050m above sea level), with its rural area the bear, the hut and alfómbrales, which are at high risk of forest fire with a subsequent affection of the birth of the river vallecitos which provides drinking water supply to the population, we see the need to devise this strategy to encourage the planting of trees in urban areas (1%) which has a low risk of forest fires, and that in turn allows the conservation of a pleasant environmental air.

Objectives and indicators of success:

General: To contribute to SDGs 11, 13 and 15 through the exemplification, education and awareness of the population of the Municipality of Murillo within the framework of the X version of CUMIS 2019.

Specific

To encourage the mayor’s commitment to the environment and care for nature. Indicat: Link to the Mayoralty in the donation.

To execute the sowing of the trees in question as a symbol of gratitude to the Murillences for their reception during the health day. Indicat: Sow the trees.

To raise awareness through the delivery of the same to the murillences with the care of the nature reserves, and the prevention of deforestation in order to have day to day a cleaner air.: Indicat: Talk with the population

Methodology:

Request to the mayor’s office for the supply of the trees (In case they are not supplied, an internal distribution would be made with the local officials of the committee to take them to the site according to the specifications)

Realization of letterhead and pre delimitation of the planting place

Prior formation of work groups and assignment of an area for the planting of the same (in case they are distant it is intended to replicate the message in each site and report in each site once care is done)

Excavation request for the planting of the trees and of suppliers for each site that will help to finish the treading and planting it

Plans for evaluation:

A check will be made of the methodology used, and the success of the sowing of the trees will be taken as a measure of success, together with the enrollment of the guidelines of the municipality and its inhabitants to care for the roots left there. Likewise, it is foreseen that in a prudent time (3 years) the site will be revisited and the impact of the planting of the trees, the state, and its current condition will be verified.
