General description:

SKY Meeting is a medical congress committed to the topic of Surgery, with the
future always in mind, it aims to bring together the irreverence of young doctors and the
knowledge of experts, enriching and revolutionizing the surgical sphere over several
generations. Medical students will have the opportunity to get in touch with new techniques and procedures, given by expert and prestigious surgeons either in parallel sessions and pratical workshops.

Problem statement:

The aim is to imporve today´s Surgical field. Through an evaluation form sent to the participants, we concluded that 99,3% of them rated the general performance of the congress in 4 or 5 points, of a scale from 1 to 5. With that, we concluded that the fourth edition of SKY Meeting can be evaluated in a very positive way, marked by the return to presential mode. We realize the growth, so in the future new and bolder goals can be achieved, to give our students a variety of quality sessions.

Target groups:

Medical students

Beneficiaries:

General population, Medical students, Healthcare Students, Doctors, Other health professionals

Objectives:

1 – bring revolutionary and recent themes to all the sessions of the congress, so that all our participants are up to date with everything new on this field

2 – clarify students’ doubts in the field of surgery

3 – allow students’ contact with new surgical techniques

4 – bet on the internationalization of the congress, namely through the participation of international speakers, pioneers in the field of surgery

5 – increase the range of surgical specialties addressed, rather than being limited specifically to general surgery

6 – use advanced technology, namely virtual reality, in order to simulate real scenarios, giving a more realistic component to the workshops

7 – introduce less valued topics, namely stress management in surgical environment, decision management, time management, among others

Indicators of Success:

In order to evaluate if the objectives of the activity have been reached, a questionnaire broken down by points is sent to the participants, in which they will have to evaluate the plenary sessions, workshops, logistics and image of the congress, on a scale of 0 to 5. They can also leave their comments and suggestions. Completing this survey is mandatory for the participant to have access to the certificate of participation.

Methodology:

The congress is organized by the Department of Research, Training and Science of AEFMUP, who will be the coordinators.A call for the Organizing Committee is open to all students of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto which are divided into 4 departments: logistics, fundraising, program and image. The Organizing Committee is constituted in mid-June, and the congress is held at the end of November.

The congress has as its partners the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto and the Hospital and University Center of São João. The venue and medical material is largely provided by them. Financial support comes, in large part, from the Students’ Association of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (AEFMUP) as well as companies contacted in order to establish logistical and financial partnerships.

The dissemination of the congress is carried out mainly through social networks and according to the confirmations of speakers / activities to be carried out.

Plans for evaluation:

Every year an evaluation questionnaire is applied at the end of the activity (as mentioned in point 2). Before each edition, the coordinators of the Organizing Committee read the participants’ evaluation and feedback regarding the previous edition. In this way, a temporal record of the congress is maintained.

The questions in this assessment are the same every year, if applicable to the sessions/activities carried out in that year’s edition. If new sessions/format changes are introduced, new questions are introduced in the questionnaire in addition to the pre-existing ones.
