Problem statement:

Solid organ donation and transplantation remains grossly underdeveloped in low and middle income countries like Kenya. The knowledge and attitude of tomorrow’s professionals may be key in the improvement of these services in the developing world.

Target groups and beneficiaries:

Primary Target Group: Kenyan medical students (Clinical years preferred)
Secondary Target: University Faculty and practicing physicianss
Tertiary Target: Medical boards & Medical Curriculum stakeholders
Beneficiaries: All aforementioned targets

Objectives and indicators of success:

To describe the knowledge and attitudes of Kenyan undergraduate medical students towards solid organ donation and their self-perceived level of confidence and competence in addressing end-of-life issues, and approaching potential donors.

May-June 2018: Data analysis and report writing
By Mid July 2018: Submission of final report
August to October 2018: Create awareness about research outcomes e.g. presentation of results in journal clubs, conferences etc.

Plans for evaluation:

From the input received we aim to present the results in the following fora:
1. Student research groups e.g. journal clubs: this being a student led research we aim to advocate for more undergraduate research among medical students
2. Surgical societies and/or organizations involved in solid organ transplantation: We aim to use the research outcomes to bring the following stakeholders on board so as to assist us in the advocacy of the inclusion of transplant medicine in our medical curriculum
