Share life, Save Lifes – Peru (IFMSA-Peru)
Name of the activity: Share life, Save Lifes
Country/NMO: Peru (IFMSA-Peru)
Program: Organ, Marrow & Tissue Donation
Contact information: [email protected]
Type of the activity: Campaign
Focus area:
Organ donation, Blood donation
Problem statement:
Little existing donation culture in Peru. Blood banks do not reach the established annual supply goals (<0.5% of the population is voluntary donor), even having policies and laws established in Peru (Law 28189).
Target groups and beneficiaries:
The activities will be directed to the population in general, focusing on the adult population, who are those who have the legal capacity to adjudicate as donors. However, we will also seek to interact with a younger population in order to create a culture of donation in them.
Objectives and indicators of success:
-To raise awareness among the population about the importance of voluntary donation
*Enroll new citizens in the registry of organs and blood donors
-To disclose the regulations regarding donation in Peru
*Surveys after the activity on the norms and laws of donation in Peru
-Train medical students as promoters of voluntary donation
*Number of students enrolled in the promoters program
Methodology:
1.Establish a work agreement with PRONAHEBAS
2. Organize informative talks to medical students about voluntary donation
3. Create a workshop aimed at voluntary blood donation for medical students
4. Organize campaigns aimed at the population, seeking to register the people involved in the national voluntary donation program
5. Carry out talks with the population during the campaigns, using surveys to measure knowledge against the laws and regulations on voluntary donation
Plans for evaluation:
-Sign a work agreement in conjunction with PRONAHEBAS
-Evaluate the number of people registered as voluntary donors after each campaign
-Evaluate the number of medical students enrolled in the workshop of promoters each 3 months
-Use pre and post surveys to measure the knowledge prior to the intervention in the population and the knowledge acquired about the voluntary donation laws
