Day 1
Today marked the first day of the meeting, as well the day on which I delivered the statement on behalf of IFMSA–“Strengthening of the community-based health workforce in the context of revitalization of primary health care”.

The Session began with an opening speech by Dr. Samlee Plianbangchang, WHO Regional Director for South-East Asia and the election of the new Chair for the meeting, Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad, the Minister of Health & Family Welfare of India. In the presence of Dr. Margaret Chan, the Director-General of WHO, we began the meeting on a fruitful note.

After the lunch break it was time for me to deliver the statement and as the statement affirms what our organization believes in, I was confident about the message we were going to deliver shortly. The statement was well received, as the audience not only applauded, but looked at me with smiling faces. Many attendees appreciated our statement, including Dr. Margaret Chan who asked me during a conversation whether we were the dedicated medical students eager and willing to work on the issue. Of course, my answer, simple and confident, was “YES.” This is what I wanted to share on behalf of IFMSA – we are dedicated, aspiring medical students ready to take on the challenges of revitalizing primary health care.”
