Problem statement:

years since the Convention on the Rights of the Child was adopted, the Middle East has seen notable progress in children’s rights, However kids in EMR are still going through a lot through the decades and no one is talking about it , kids in our region are getting abused and exploited , they suffer conflicts and they starve to death .After all, young people are asking for the very basics. they are just asking for their voices to be heard and  to live in dignity .

Objectives:

1/ capacity building of members in matters of children’s rights to know how to advocate for this vulnerable population and submit their behaviors and decision-making as future practitioners to a continuou evaluation based on human rights principles.

2/Strengthen the skills of medical students regarding communication with the different categories and age groups of children to be more effective when conveying a message for them.

3/educate medical students who will educate in their turn kids and teenagers in the maters of their rights and how to report any violation.

4/ Increase community education and awareness about child abuse, including strategies for prevention, intervention and treatment.

5/ Recognize AssociaMed as a civil organization that defends child Rights , active in decision-making , side by side to different stakeholders .

6/build strong sets of future health care personnel knowledgeable on legal frameworks , able to guarantee a better doctor-patient ship.

Indicators of Success:

1/20 students  well trained in children’s rights in its various fields , able to defend them and capable to move to the action through raising awareness sessions in schools . 

2/All the participants will be able to conduct at least 1 session in which they can communicate with children and transfer the knowledge they got with simple manners adapted to their age range .

-80% of the participants will be involved in the next projects we will work on in child matters .

3/AssociaMed more known in child concerns :

*Attend national conferences regarding child matters

*TV appearances and share our voices in radio stations .

*Work on social media presence 

 4/20 students ,from different levels , to be well educated in legal frameworks, acquire practical skills on ethical communication in healthcare, emphasizing on the importance of care for fragile categories of patients like children .

Methodology:

-Capacity building of the participants ( communication skills , basic children rights knowledge ..)

-Training on children rights which have included introduction to human rights we discussed the minos marriage, sexual harassment, child labor , sexuality and puberty and violence in schools in all its aspects

-Training session delivered by Mr Kais Cheour  , IFMSA SCORP trainer who sailed us into the world of children’s rights , disturbing statistics, the institutions providing care for children worldwide. Then we dealt with the situation of children in Tunisia

-Training session with Dr Hela Ben Abid , child psychiatrist , with whom we worked on developing communication skills : how to address a child as a future practioner, how to understand them and help them get rid of their stored energy and express theirselves , but also to find solutions

– raising awareness sessions in schools to educate children on their rights and how to report any violation 

Plans for evaluation:

* Pre evaluation : online mediatization of the event + the diffuse of some facts and « did you know » to identify the needs of students and things we need to focus more on .

*a stand in the faculty in order to promote the project and answer all the questions of the medical students who would like to participate.

* Post evaluation:

-measure the degree of satisfaction of  the participants,  gather their feedback and inputs by an evaluation form shared in the discussion group and the event .(satisfaction / choice of thematics / timeline / contributions …)

-Post evaluation form for the trainers ( proficiency and preparations / technics /the atmosphere…)

External collaborations:

This project was conducted with the support of the faculty of medicine of Sousse and also professors such as Dr Hela ben Abid , the professor in child psychiatry .
