General description:

‘Red Ribbon Night” project by SaMSIC

World AIDS day is held on 1st December each year since 1988. World AIDS Day is important as it reminds the public and Government that HIV has not gone away – there is still a vital need to raise money, increase awareness, fight prejudice and improve education. This year we want to rise awareness about this health issue in our community. To accomplish this task we will organize ”Red Ribbon Night”.

This event will be on 30 November 2017, Thursday, because we want to enter the 1st December at 00:00 straight. Place where the event will occur is a comedy club ”Smuggler” with capacity of 300 people. The space of club will be decorated in red, with red balloons which are shaped in ribbons. Central event of the night will be a stand-up comedy act of theater duo ”Positive Negativity”. They will have a little show that is half act and half quiz on how HIV is and is not transmitted, also there is going to be a scene where they “talk” directly in person with the “HIV VIRUS”. Every guest will get a red ribbon (the international symbol of HIV awareness and support) and a condom ( Durex is our sponsor). Dress code will be something red. Also, there will be a red non-alcoholic drink. And exactly at 00:00 we will cut a red ribbon themed cake. After that night, at the 1st of December, all the SaMSIC members and medical students will gather in the city center. There we will form the Red Ribbon shape out of people, where every participant will hold a red baloon in the air, and we will film it form the aie using a dron :D. Our slogan is ”Sometimes is positive to be negative”.

Objectives and indicators of success:

Our objectives for this project are:
– to rise awareness about HIV/AIDS

– to improve education about AIDS/HIV
– to remind people to use condoms
– to show support for people living with HIV
– to end stigma and discrimination of HIV positive patients.

Our indicators of success will be an survey/questionary that every participant of the event will have to fill out before and after the event is over, so when we analyze and compare before and after we will see did they or did they not learn something from our event.

Methodology:

Central event of the night will be a stand-up comedy act with educational character of theater duo ”Positive Negativity”. They will have a little show that is half act and half quiz on how HIV is and is not transmitted, also there is going to be a scene where they “talk” directly in person with the “HIV VIRUS”.

Plans for evaluation:

We will compare the survey/questionary before and after the end of the activity, and we will then see if our activity had a positive impact on the people that visited our event.
