Type of the activity: Education. Education on health issues for specific societal groups, either in the form of projects (set of tasks for a certain group over a fixed period of time), events (something notable that happens) or conferences (form meeting about ideas related to a particular topic, usually over several days).
General description:
The RCSR is an event created by and for medical students, was born in order to create a safe space to address issues that concern sexual and reproductive health, a subject that is still taboo in our society .For this reason, we believe that this space is necessary, beacuse different topics will be developed such as: Safe Abortion , HIV and STIs, comprehensive sexuality, sexual and reproductive rights, among others. The idea is that such space is used to take advantage by its assistants, and have a better management in this topics, who will also have the possibility to attend the different trainings that will be held on the context of the congress. We believe that as future doctors it is necessary to start a change, where sexuality is normalized, and this is a suitable space to achieve it.
Focus area:
Access to Safe Abortion
Problem statement:
This subject is important for us because a huge number of womens are dying due to ilegal abortive procedures. One of the barriers is that some doctors that are capable of making this procedure deny to practice it under the conscientious objection. The statistics shows that in 2008, only 1% of abortions were made under what is established by law, even when there are 3 legally permitted causes. We need a change on medical education to make a good counseling and to perform a correct procedure.
Target groups:
Medical students, Healthcare Students, Other health professionals, Youth
Beneficiaries:
General population, Medical students, Healthcare Students, Other health professionals, Youth, Women, LGBTQIA+ community
Objectives and indicators of success:
Promote, encourage respect and inclusion related to issues such as gender equality, the right to live free of violence and discrimination, as well as promote the freedom to decide about our own body Success Indicator: Number of awareness conferences carried out, including approximately number of women and Medical Students participants.
Enable a suitable and safe space, where a honest and direct dialogue on topics related to sexuality and interpersonal relationships can be carried out. Succes Indicator: Number of students attending to the congress.
Sensitize attendees in general, about the importance of sexual health issues, as well as encourage knowledge and protection of sexual and reproductive rights of each person, promoting safe and responsible behavior.Succes Indicator: Number of participants who can better explain sexual themes such as abortion, after the congress.
Give tools to the assistants so later they will be able to take a personal position, as well as advicing their patients, relatives and friends Sucess Indicator: Number of participants who can better explain sexual themes such as abortion , after the congress.
Methodology:
In Order to make the information about the topics easier to be understood , we’re gonna make a congress with an open lapse time that provides an space where assistans can have differents opinions and ask questions to the professionals creating a space for arguing and learning in a didactic way, which is gonna be possible after they have the tools to do so. The tools are gonna be given to them in the congress through talks and trainings.
Plans for evaluation:
In the inscription procedure, we would solicitate the participant’s email, and after the congress, we’re gonna send a google forms in which would ask different question about the level of satisfaction and reception of the information that had the event.
