Problem statement:
Sudan is a country that almost exclusively depends on imported goods in terms of medication, with factors such as the economic crisis, political instability, and lack of solid policies and regulations making the situation of accessing essential drugs and vaccines worse. That issue was only exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Objectives:
By the end of the workshop, 15 participants will
G1: Participants will learn Leadership skills
1.Gain insight on their specific leadership style
2.Learn the different phases of Team Development
3.Give feedback according to the BIO model
G2: Participants will improve their knowledge of vaccine equity and access to medicine as a public health issue
1.Be able to define the principle of equity in health
2.Become familiar with at least 5 social determinants of health
3.Comprehend the issues that face access to vaccines
4.Understand the issues regarding access to medicine in general
Goal 3: Participants will improve their Activity Management skills
1.Learn problem identification tools
2.Learn different situation analysis techniques
3.Learn how to write a proposal
- Learn the difference between Vision, Mission, Goals and Objectives
5.Create at least 3 SMART objectives
6.Learn how to write a report
Indicators of Success:
90% of participants identify their own leadership style
90% of participants deliver at least one feedback to a fellow participant
80% of participants draft a concept note for an activity on vaccine equity related issues
90% of participants get a passing score on the final post assessment
80% of participants draft a proposal for a vaccine equity related initiative
80% of participants create a report template for their activities/ initiatives
Methodology:
The Public health leaders workshop is a MedSIN-Sudan SCOPH official workshop. Following in the footsteps of the international PHLT, throughout a three day period, MedSIN-Sudan SCOPH members developed skills of leadership, activity management and public health to enable them to take action on the issue of access to medicine and vaccines within their local contexts.
The workshop utilized internationally recognized training techniques to deliver quality content that not only focuses on knowledge and skills, but also opportunities for actual implementation and practice.
The workshop was organized by the MedSIN-Sudan SCOPH National Team through:
– Developing the proposal
– Creating a logistical plan and budget
– Opening a call for trainers and participants
– Seeking external financial support
– Developing the materials of the workshop
– Conducting the workshop
Plans for evaluation:
The evaluation of the workshop was an outcome and an objective based one, utilizing the following techniques to evaluate the participants and the content of the workshop:
- Pre and post assessment form
- Final submitted assignment of participants
- Individual follow up and coaching sessions with participants
- Daily group reflections
