Problem statement:
At any time, over 1.4 million people worldwide suffer from infectious complications acquired in hospital. Hospital acquired infections (HAIs) is a major safety concern for both health care providers and the patients. Considering morbidity, mortality, increased length of stay and the cost, efforts should be made to make the hospitals as safe as possible by preventing such infections. The burden of HAIs is higher in developing countries such as India, with a pooled prevalence of 10.1%

Objectives:
The following objectives target at least 200 medical students and paramedical students with the help of a powerpoint presentation through a 45-60 minute online awareness session in a span of 5 months-
– To sensitize about the importance of hospital infection control
– To educate about the routes of transmission of infections in hospital settings
– To sensitize about the standard precautions and practices for IPC
– To educate about the basic hand hygiene practices, prevention of needlestick injuries and post exposure prophylaxis
– To sensitize about the importance of routine immunization of healthcare workers and proper use of personal protective equipments,
– To educate about proper biomedical waste management
Indicators of Success:
GENERAL INDICATORS –
Target Population Reached = 200
Number of events- 30
SPECIFIC INDICATORS –
At least 60% of the target population understands the importance of hospital infection control
At least 60% of the target population is aware of the routes of transmission of infections in hospital settings
At least 60% of the target population is aware of the standard precautions and practices for IPC
At least 60% of the target population is aware of the basic hand hygiene practices, prevention of needlestick injuries and post exposure prophylaxis
At least 60% of the target population understands the importance of routine immunization of healthcare workers and proper use of personal protective equipments

For Awareness Session:
Activity: On-ground awareness and Interactive session on-ground
Before the Event
Each event has the target audience as the medical students and paramedical students.
Distributing the online Pre-event questionnaires to the audience and collecting responses
During the Event:.
45-60 minutes awareness and interactive session
After the Event
Distributing the online Post-event questionnaires to the audience and collecting responses and feedback.
Social media- Instagram reel promoting hand hygiene
Plans for evaluation:
– Assessing existing knowledge based on a pre event questionnaire.All the participants will get a pre event questionnaire which will contain quantitative and qualitative questions
– Awareness session by an MSAI volunteer using a powerpoint presentation.
– Impact assessment by Post event questionnaire
