Name of the activity: Panel Debate: HIV positive Patient and Medical Care
Country/NMO: Czech Republic (IFMSA-CZ)
Program: HIV/AIDS & Other STIs
Contact information: [email protected]
Type of the activity: Education. Education on health issues for specific societal groups, either in the form of projects (set of tasks for a certain group over a fixed period of time), events (something notable that happens) or conferences (form meeting about ideas related to a particular topic, usually over several days).
General description:
Our acitvity should raise awarness about HIV and PrEP/PEP as well as decrease stigma on HIV+ people which is a big problem in Czech Republic as HIV+ people are often rejected to be treated by doctors. This is mostly because of lack of information. Our goal is to decrease level of stigma on HIV+ people from medical students, because if we want this situation to change we have to start from the youngest generation of future medical professionals. We would like to have some outcome, kind of consensus, form the debate that we could use later during Policy Statement building process and advocacy process.
Focus area:
Removing stigmatization and empowering people living with HIV
Problem statement:
HIV+ patients do not have accessible healthcare. This is caused mainly by misinformation of medical proffesional and stigmatization of HIV+ patients. This problem then may cause some more serious medical issues to rejected HIV+ patients as the trend is to centralise medical care for these people and provided that they have to wait much longer than thay would normally have to wait.
Target groups:
Medical students, Healthcare Students, Other Students, Doctors, Other health professionals
Beneficiaries:
Medical students, Healthcare Students, HIV+ people
Objectives and indicators of success:
1. Decrease stigma and raise awarness (about HIV, PrEP, PEP)
I_1.1: Number of people reached by our campaign on social.
I_1.2: Number of people attending event.
2. Make platform for discussion and form an outcome to be used later
I_2.1: Participation of one representative from Czech Medical Chamber, Czech Stomatological Chamber and Czech Association AIDS Help. Beside of these general practitioner and HIV+ patient will participate.
I_2.2: Have an outcome from debate based on consensus between above stated participants (representing organizations/patients) to operate with during Policy Statement building and later in advocacy process with Ministry of Health of Czech Republic and professional organizations of medical a dental doctors.
Methodology:
First step of this activity to get in touch with Czech Medical Chamber, Czech Stomatological Chamber, Czech Association AIDS Help, General Practitioner and HIV+ patient and invite them to participate in debate. After that we will set date of event and concrete topics that will be touched during event. Before the debate we will spread information about topic and stigma on social media and present our guests there as well. At this moment we have participants from all organisations except of Czech Stomatological Chamber which rejected to participate.
Plans for evaluation:
Our outcomes will be for indicators I_1.1. and I_2.2. evaluated and monitored by number of people reached by our event, by number of people who reacted on our event and by number of people really attending our event.
For indicator I_2.1. the evaluation will be based on number o people participating in panel of the debate and representation of each organisation.
Evaluation of indicator I_2.2. consists of gathering material for building a Policy Statement in cooperation with Health Policy Group of IFMSA-CZ
