Organ Donor Project – The Netherlands (IFMSA NL)

Name of the activity: Organ Donor Project

Country/NMO: The Netherlands (IFMSA NL)

Program: Organ, Marrow & Tissue Donation

Contact information: [email protected]

Type of the activity: Campaign

Focus area:

Organ donation

Problem statement:

NL has a shortage of organ donors. Lack of knowledge about organ donation, the process of donation, the process of registration etc. can provide a huge restraint in determining and indicating a persons’ personal choice in the Donor Registry.

Target groups and beneficiaries:

The main target group of the project are 4th to 6th grade students (age 16-18) at secondary education. It is also successful in grade 1 to 3 of secondary education (age 12-15) and secondary vocational education (MBO)

Objectives and indicators of success:

Objective: The organ donor project of IFMSA-NL aims to encourage people to register their choice in the Dutch Donor Register. Participants in the project are never asked to become an organ donor, but only to register their personal choice in the Donor Register.

• Secondary education students and Secondary vocational education (MBO) students will increase their knowledge about organ donation while misunderstandings are dispelled.
And more! Too few characters!

The organ donor lessons have an duration of on average 60 to 120 min and are preferably given by two peers. The lessons contain an informative part that focuses on knowledge enhancement about organ donation. The lesson are further adjusted to the level of the class that is taught and if there are any wished of the teacher those can be taken into account as well. There is also space for (ethical) discussions, games and video

Plans for evaluation:

Evaluation of the project takes place both internally (within IFMSA) as externally (at the schools/with the peers). The internal evaluation focuses on the organization of the project itself. After each lesson the teachers will receive an evaluation form and the students will be asked to provide feedback as well. To measure the impact we are using standardized impact forms to measure the gained knowledge of the students.
