Contact information: [email protected]

Type of the activity: Education

Focus area:

Organ donation

Problem statement:

There’s almost 23000 patients with terminal kidney failure who need dialysis, and this cost Algeria a lot with no benefits on the life quality, in the meanwhile organ donation in Algeria is not accessible for everybody because of the lack of donnors.

Target groups and beneficiaries:

Our main target group was medical students. As we said, this conferecnce was held at Constantine’s medical school to talk about the statement with people who are concerned in the first place. Then, we believe that they will spread all information they learned round them. Hence, we will have indirect beneficiaries through health care workers.

Objectives and indicators of success:

– Raise awarness about organ donation from living people and especially from encephalic death
– Introduct the culture of organ donation as a fondamental valeur in our society
– Help our futurs physicians to be successful in adressing to the patient’s family, because in algeria in the case the the patient is in encephalic death we need the approval of the family so that we can get access to his organs

Actually we did two activities
– taking random people in photos after talking to them about the issue and getting their support, the photos are available in a facebook page that we created
– conference about raising awarness about organ donation in the case of encephalic death patients. the conference was educative we wanted we vehicule our main message througt this activity with the help of the chief of reanimation service of Constantine’s hospital. The audience was interactive and the feedbacks that we received were very constructive and encouraging.

Plans for evaluation:

We didi a quik quiz by the end of the conference with True/False answers to evaluate wether the participants have assimilated all the information we provided. We also prepared forms for the participants the day of the conference and most of the feedbacks were potivive and encouraging to organise other activities for the same theme.
