General description:

Sexual harassment is a major problem for interns. We decided to create a Google Form that will serve as an anonymous space for denounces.
This information will be collected and taken to the academic and institutional departments, we will also write statements and letters to impulse policies at the universities and the institutions to protect interns, to punish the perpetrators and assure a pleasant and safe work environment.

Focus area:

Sexual Harassment

Problem statement:

Sexual harassment is a terrible reality lived by our colleagues at the hospital. Whether it comes from residents, teachers, other interns or coworkers, it’s a burden often lived in silence and if the victim decides to speak up, the perpetrator is usually not punished or there’s consequences for the victim. With this campaign, we want to raise awareness among the university and institutional authorities about this problem, for them to punish the perpetrators and to create policies that assure a pleasant and safe work environment. We also want to create an anonymous denounce space, to collect data and expose the severity of this problem.

Target groups and beneficiaries:

Target group: Medical students on the internship year, university and institutional authorities
Beneficiaries: Medical students on the internship year and future generations

Objectives and indicators of success:

• Provide an anonymous denounce platform for sexual harassments cases to the interns in their work environment.
• Collect data about denounces of sexual harassments to the interns in their work environment.
• Raise awareness to the university and institutional authorities about the severity of the sexual harassment lived by the interns.
• Impulse policies at the universities and the institutions to protect interns, to punish the perpetrators and assure a pleasant and safe work environment

Methodology:

We are going to create an online form (Google Form) that will be shared through every social network of IFMSA-Honduras, medical students’ Facebook groups, interns’ groups on Whatsapp and Telegram. This form will be an anonymous space to report any case of sexual harassment suffered as an intern in the work environment. This information will be collected and taken to the academic and institutional departments, we will also write statements and letters to impulse policies at the universities and the institutions to protect interns, to punish the perpetrators and assure a pleasant and safe work environment.

Plans for evaluation:

The first step is the denounces’ system, we will follow up sending the form every month and exposing the data each month to analyze the evolution of this problem. We will also evaluate if there is a change on the university and institutional policies, this will be evaluated in the same monthly form. The final evaluation will be at the end of the activity.
We will then public the data found internationally. This activity will be stronger if we make it international.
