General description:

NCDs are diseases that are not spread through infection but are typically caused by unhealthy behaviours. They account for over two thirds of deaths globally and can cause major disabilites if untreated. Includes no. of diseases for example Cardiovascular diseases, Cancers, Diabetes Mellitus, ..etc.

IFMSA-Iraq National project for NCDs is a project where 14 LC will work on to raise awareness about NCDs, reduce numbers of unhealthy behaviours and possibly reduce incidence on the long term

Problem statement:

The EMR -including Iraq- which have some of the highest rates of tobacco use and overweighting of any world region. Many of the NCDs started asymptomatically and mostly diagnosed in advanced stages. Around 1.4 million of Iraqis have diabetes. According to the latest WHO data published in 2020 Coronary Heart Disease Deaths in Iraq reached 36,594 or 24.98% of total deaths.

Untreating or delaying the treatment have severe long term complications including vision loss ,disabilities and even death.

Objectives:

“For Goal 1

1-Conduct a social media campaigns on Instagram through posts anr stories to reach 5000 person to aware people about the most common NCDs on 10/Feb/2023-30/Feb/2023

2-Conduct 7 field events in elderly care centers and Orphanages on about the most common NCDs and its complications 10/Feb/2023-30/Mar/2023.

For Goal 2

1-Hold 5 Field events in non medical colleges to raise 500 Iraqi medical student knowledge regarding oral health and its impact on systemic health and the correct oral hygiene measures on 1/March/2023-1/May/2023.

2-Collaboration with externals like WHO and IFRC or other NGOs to raise the awareness about early detection of the most common NCDs on 1/March/2023-30/May/2023.

3-Conduct 5 field events in secondary schools to raise awareness for 700 student about the healthy life style on 10/April/2023-01/June/2023.

Indicators of Success:

Objective 1 At least 2500 views

Objective 3 60% improvement in the results of post evaluation questionaries & reach at least 250 students.

1-Me as a project coordinator with the help of national PSD and SCOPH team.

2-LPOs about 14 for 18 LC.

3-Active IFMSA-Iraq members for organizing and helping LPOs to achieve our objectives.

Risk and sustainability:

Decreased engagement from IFMSA-Iraq members or low budget will affect the project.

Every year there will be a Project coordinator for NCDs and will take handover from me and this journey continues.

Plans for evaluation:

1-Baseline assessment at the beginning of the term by sending form to LCs to know thier knowledge on NCDs -and other SCOPH topics-.

2-Pre-activity assessments through questionaries, forms and interveiws.

3-Monitoring through meetings with LPOs, Nantional Team every month, Reviewing reports after each activity

4-Post-activity evaluation through observations, forms, interviews.

5-Follow up with school, orphanages and other places where field event happend.
