General description:
National health priorities forum is an activity that aims to create and capacitate public health advocates who are well oriented about their national situation, and are able to decide which topics can be considered as focus areas for the next strategy, public health advocates who are also able to determine the future national priorities.
Problem statement:
Currently, SCOPH members are quite aware of the importance of having specific focus areas that deal with the most deteriorated aspects nationally. But on the other side we are facing another issue when it comes to talking about focus areas, which is ” How to choose national focus areas”. In Sudan, where public health issues are a lot, it may be difficult to decide what to prioritize, how to prioritize, what topics we – as medical students – could invest our efforts in.
Target groups:
- Medical students
- Healthcare Students
Beneficiaries:
- General population
- Medical students
- Healthcare Students
- Doctors
- Other health professionals
Objectives:
1- participants increase the knowledge about the priorities system
Obj 1.1 : 80 % of the participants will be able to define what is the priorities system
2- participants increase their knowledge about determining the Health priorities.
Obj 2.1 : 80% of the participants will be able to define the health priority by the end of the activity.
Obj 2.2 : 80 % of the participants will be able to determine the base of choosing the health priorities
3- participants know their role as medical students regarding the health priorities
Obj 3.1 : 80% of the participants will be able to define the concept of effective medical students participation.
Indicators:
IOS: Percentage of participants able to define the priorities system
IOS: Percentage of participants able to identify a health priority by the end of the activity
IOS: Percentage of participants able to determine the basis for choosing a health priority
IOS : At least one session will be conducted about the priorities system.
IOS : To address “” the role of medical students”” regarding the health priorities.
Methodology:
National health priorities forum is a (8) hours physical (symposium or conference), supervised by SCOPH national team, organized by selected OCs, and presented by speakers from MedSIN- Sudan and other possible speakers from the ministry of health, who are experts in national priorities.
– Panel discussions will be used to ensure active interactions.
– Speakers are free to use PowerPoint presentations to explain their messages.
– Participants will be divided into teams and working groups to solve problems.
– Quizzes and announcement of best participants will be done by the end of the forum to motivate the participants to take further actions by the end of the forum.
We expected that the national will not be able to conduct this activity suitably without a separate head of OC which was recruited to manage all affairs of the activity.
Plans for evaluation:
– A comprehensive pre and post assessment form to assess the expected impact of the module and any further modification to be made for such a faced obstacle.
– Post evaluation form will be sent to the participants.
External collaborations:
NGO and GO: Ministry of Health, WHO Sudan, provided us with venue and speakers.
