General description:
The activity aimed to:
Educate members about maternal and child health topics and their situation in Sudan and our effective role as future health care providers through:
-Three-day physical workshop about maternal health topics (maternal health 101,maternal mental health,maternal health in emergencies settings,obstetric violence,abortion,infertility ,family planning and breastfeeding)
– One-week online campaign about breastfeeding.
– One-day physical Symposium
Problem statement:
Sudan has a high maternal mortality rate of 295 deaths per 100,00 live births,
according to the UNFPA 2020 State of World Population report, while the world
average is 211 deaths.It’s a frustrating statistic. Almost one quarter of the population has no access at all to even basic health care.The government investment in health care is low
and the cost of most health is born by families. This situation has serious implications for maternal health.

Objectives:
1/Educate members about the maternal health.
2/ Educate members about the maternal mental health and shed light on the major
disorders and how to deal with.
3/ Educate members about the maternal health in emergencies.
4/ Educate members about the obstetric violence.
5/ Educate members about the abortion and its situation in Sudan.
6/ Educate members about the infertility.
7/Educate members about the family planning.
8/Educate members about the breastfeeding.
9/Educate members about the maternal and child health situation in Sudan.
Indicators:
-By the end of the sessions 80% of the participants should able to:
Explain the importance of maternal health.
- List maternal health components and their objectives.
- Identify the barriers and obstacles that facing women in Sudan.
- Explain the importance of the of health services during pregnancy.
- List the causes of high maternal mortality rates in Sudan.
- Explain the causes of stigma related to maternal mental health.
- Identify the best ways to reduce the consequences of emergencies in maternal health.
- Familiarise themselves with Laws and legislation issued against abortion in Sudan.
- Define obstetric violence and its situation in Sudan (Laws).
- Define infertility and its causes and treatment.
- Define family planning,methods and misconceptions.
participants should be able to:
- Definebreastfeeding,types,advantages,disadvantages and misconceptions.
- Acknowledage the situation of MCH in Sudan.
- Describe roles of government and health sectors to improveMCH situation in Sudan.
Methodology:
Methodology and timeline.
1-Three-day physical workshop on 28th,29th and 30th of August (Maternal health 101,maternal mental health, maternal health in emergencies settings,obstetric violence,infertility,abortion ,family planning and breastfeeding)
2-One-week online campaign about breastfeeding from 3rd to 15th of August (Definition,types,advantages,disadvantages and misconceptions).
3-One-day physical Symposium on 24th of September (Components of MCH,Main causes of high maternal mortality rates,Main causes of high child mortality rates and Role of government and health sectors in improving maternal and child health situation in Sudan).
-Human Resources:Activity coordinator,Head of OCs,vice head of OCs(head of scientific committee and 4 members)(head of publication committee and 3 members)(head of fundraising and logistics committee and 4 members)(head of hosting committee and 4 members).
