General description:
MEDSAR-SRHR one-week training is a project of MEDSAR in partnership with SPECTRA RWANDA. It aims to capacitate primary and secondary school teachers on comprehensive sexuality education delivery. It will also equip community health workers and healthcare providers with up-to-date sexual reproductive health and rights information.
Problem statement:
Teachers and healthcare professionals lack of knowledge and skills to deliver comprehensive Sexuality Education in schools and gaps in delivering ASRHR services in comprehensive and friendly way for adolescents
Target groups:
Doctors, Secondary school teachers and community health workers
Beneficiaries:
Doctors, Other health professionals, Teachers and community health workers
Objectives:
For TEACHERS TRAINING
1. To increase competence and confidence of teachers while delivering CSE.
2. To recognize sexual activity among adolescents is normal, all needed is guidelines.
3. To understand and clarify SRHR and CSE.
4. To explore and address challenges faced by teachers while delivering CSE.
For CWHs TRAININGS
1. To highlight the challenges faced in Accessing SRHR at cell level
2. To increase knowledge on SRHR and access to contraceptives.
3. To address myths and cultural norms regarding SRHR
4. Breaking stigma, taboos and discrimination around SHRH Services especially contraception
5. Addressing challenges faced by CHWs during their work on SRHR
For health care providers
1. Build the capacity of healthcare providers and nurses with SRHR.
2. Increase knowledge of SHRH and Family planning in General
3. Raise awareness on the importance of SRHR services delivery
4. Breaking stigma, taboos and discrimination around SHRH Services especially contraception
Indicators of Success:
- Empowered teachers, CHWs and healthcare providers with confidence and competence.
2. Increased knowledge of SRHR and CSE.
3. Increased knowledge on SRHR among teachers, CHWs and healthcare providers.
4. Addressed and highlighted cultural myths about SRHR
5. Increased awareness on multidisciplinary approach toward SRHR
6. Reduction of teenage pregnancies in youth.
7. Improved advocacy for adolescent sexual and reproductive health rights.
8. Improved knowledge in Health care providers and nurses about SRHR services delivery, advocacy and activism.
Methodology:
These trainings will be conducted by MEDSAR in partnership with SPECTRA RWANDA and sessions will involve participatory teaching methods such as group discussion, brainstorming, role play, small group work, educational games, drama, case studies and storytelling.The sessions will be conducted in Huye and Gisagara to facilitate people with
traveling and reduce transportation costs. MEDSAR volunteers will help to facilitate session’s activities including registration, assisting the main trainers

There was pre and post-evaluation forms which used to assess the level of understanding and skills gained during the workshops
