Mama & Family Project – Sweden (IFMSA-Sweden)
Name of the activity: Mama & Family Project
Country/NMO: Sweden (IFMSA-Sweden)
Program: Maternal Health & Access to Safe Abortion
Contact information: [email protected]
Type of the activity: Third Party Activities
General description:
The Mama & Family project does different types of activities to fundraise for maternal health in the Maina Parish in Uganda. Our collaboration partner, The Swedish Organization for Global Health (SOGH), gives birth kits to expectant mothers on their fourth antenatal visit, thereby incentivising women to attend all four visits.
Focus area:
Maternal Healthcare Services (antenatal, antepartum and postpartum care)
Problem statement:
The project aims to improve maternal health in southeastern Uganda where the health care resources are limited and the challenges are many. 1 in 47 women die from pregnancy and childbirth-related causes, and 3 out of 100 babies die within their first month of life. The largest reason for newborns’ deaths in the project area is delay when seeking health care.
Target groups and beneficiaries:
Our target group is the public and our beneficiaries are mothers in a rural area of southeastern Uganda.
Objectives and indicators of success:
Our goal is to fundraise and spread awareness for the mama & family project. On a local level, this is done in different ways depending on the active members. There is no set indicator for how much money we should fundraise on a national or on a local level.
Methodology:
We fundraise through different types of activities, such as awareness campaigns like biking between two different cities to raise money. The activities may vary between different local projects.
Plans for evaluation:
The success of the activity is evaluated by how much money has been raised for the project.
