Problem statement:
Accounting for about 75% of emerging infectious diseases, zoonotic diseases can be devastating to both human and animal health, hence the need for cooperation between human, animal and environmental health.
Nigeria, with a population of 200 million people, records 60,000 deaths annually from zoonoses.
As medical students, we have a role to play in promoting multi-sectoral approaches to tackling this. Working across disciplines, we can act to increase it’s awareness and collaborate to tackle it.

Objectives:
To educate the participants on the concept of One Health during the period of the webinar on 11th July, 2022
To expose participants to the importance of interdisciplinary approaches in fighting zoonoses during the period of the webinar on 11th July 2022
To equip medical students to promote active awareness on zoonotic diseases in Nigeria during the period of the social media campaign and webinar from 8th to 11th July 2022
To create awareness on zoonotic diseases through social media and webinar from 8th to 11th July 2022
To recruit more public health advocates through social media and webinar from 8th to 11th July 2022
To expose medical students to opportunities in One Health and External Affairs through the webinar on 11th July 2022
Indicators of Success:
Minimum of 50 participants from different schools join the webinar
Minimum of 60 students participate in the social media awareness by posting on their WhatsApp stories
60% of respondents to the program evaluation form will state their satisfaction with the acquired knowledge after the program
Minimum of 1000 impressions on social media awareness posts
Methodology:
I identified the problem
I set up a team to work with me on the activity
We brought up aims and objectives of the activity and determined the date of the activity
We drafted a concept note
We reached out to both external and internal collaborators for the activity
We invited two external speakers, a medical doctor and a veterinary doctor, to speak on the topic: A One Health Approach towards defeating Zoonotic Diseases
We organised the social media campaign from 8th to 11th July, 2022
We organised the webinar on the 11th July 2022 with the two external speakers present.
Plans for evaluation:
Amount of impressions, likes and comments on the social media awareness posts on Zoonotic diseases
Program evaluation form to be filled at the end of the campaign in July 2022.
