Problem statement:
During the last years, the Scientific Association of Medical Students of the University of Caldas – ACEMCAL – has been concerned to contribute to the academic training of its members as a complement to the training offered by the University of Caldas. This purpose has led our association to be the organizer of important national and regional academic events, in this occasion we decided to carry out the IV CCIER, where we talked about the low prevalence of Rare Diseases
Target groups and beneficiaries:
medical students and people in the health area
Objectives and indicators of success:
Offer a day dedicated to the presentation lectures focused on rare diseases from the perspective of different medical specialties to those attending the event.
Receive research protocols, videoinfograms, research projects and clinical cases that are presented for the event; ensure evaluators with extensive experience in the areas of medical knowledge that touch the works received and reward those who obtain the best qualifications.
Attendance to the Event and the Number of Projects received in the contest items
Methodology:
The activities proposed in the contest are: oral support of scientific works from 8:00 am to 12:00 m. In the facilities arranged at the headquarters of the University of Caldas.
In the afternoon, medical trivia on rare diseases is prepared, with topics provided by the academic committee of the IV CCIER, where they can put their knowledge to the test through a number of rounds of multiple-choice questions with different levels their knowledge against those of other medical students in the country.
For November 11, conferences will be held in line with the theme of the event, which will be conducted by specialists from the city and region and will be based on their experience to determine those pathologies that are rare for the general practitioner , are frequent in their practices and consider that they should have a better approach. To finish the event will be the official awards of the first positions of the scientific contest and the winners of medical trivia.
With all of the above we hope to provide an approach with rare diseases, atypical manifestations of common diseases and neglected diseases.
