General description:

The main development problem the Pilot Project is expected to address is STIs & HIV/AIDS and reproductive health issues in the Ramechhap District of Nepal.

It is the experience of the Nepali students in PSRN-sc that sex is not an openly discussed topic among the general adolescent and adult population. In spite of the fact that the topics on STIs & HIV/AIDS are in the school curriculum the teachers usually skip them due to embarrassment. The lack of adequate knowledge and poor access to contraception, together with an increasing sexual curiosity in adolescents, may be increasing the tendency for Nepali adolescents to get involved in unsafe sexual practices.

By addressing STI & HIV/AIDS in the Pilot Project we will be targeting an important health issue which is not being paid enough attention. By enlightening the youth of Ramechhap District on these issues we will hopefully break down some of the stigma and taboo associated with STIs & HIV/AIDS.

Methodology:

We expect that our project will make a change in the lives of Nepali adolescents by providing information about the problems in question (STDs and reproductive health).

We will collect baseline data on both the knowledge of the school students in Ramechhap in relation to STIs, HIV/AIDS and reproductive health as well as the knowledge of PSRN-sc members in regards to organizational management. This baseline data will be used to plan the future activities.

The youth clubs will receive education about STIs, HIV/AIDS and reproductive health from the members of PSRN-sc. These clubs will then go on to teach classmates and peers in the community about the topics that they have received training on.

The members of PSRN-sc will receive training in different aspects of project and organizational management during.

Plans for evaluation:

In both IMCC Nepal and PSRN-sc Monitoring & Evaluation & Communication (MEC) committees will be formed. The purpose of the committees is to ensure optimal transfer of knowledge between the partners and within the groups themselves. Aside from being responsible for the communication between the partner organisations, the committees will furthermore be responsible for delegating tasks within their own respective organisation.

IMCC Nepal and PSRN-sc will write quarterly reports. A Monitoring Report Form will be made. These reports will contain information on activities carried out, indicator progression, budget, general experiences and improvements made during the project.

A provisional timeline has been made with deadlines for all indicators and activities (see appendix). These deadlines will indicate what should have been achieved at various points during the project period and will serve as guidance for the above mentioned committees.
