General description:
Hazardous water is a campaign aiming to raise awareness within the community about ways to prevent waterborne/base diseases and how to deal with them, due to what the country was witnessing days from heavy rains and floods resulting in increased risk of these diseases , beginning with Teaching participants about these diseases and Equip them with the basic advocacy skills , to raise the the awareness within the community , and Online campaign to draw people attention to this issue.
Problem statement:
These days the country is witnessing heavy rains and floods caused by infrastructure collapse, resulting in increased risk of diseases that have been spread and transferred by water, such as malaria, which constitutes a major public health problem in Sudan , almost 75% of the population is at risk of developing malaria. In addition, the lack of awareness among citizens on how to deal with and prevent these diseases leads to a worsening of the crisis.

Objectives:
- Teaching participants (40 medical students) about diseases that aid in its spread, the stagnant water, mainly malaria and cholera, teaching them the propagation methods, prevention methods, diagnosis, complications and treatment, also their complications in pregnancy and children.
- Equip participants (40) with the basic Advocacy skills
- Raise the awareness within the community members in the areas that are affected by floods and torrents, about these diseases, their spreading methods, prevention methods, complications and treatment
- Provide community members in these areas with the proper prevention tools (mosquitoes net, mosquito protection cream for 500 individual and ten families)
- Symposium targeting medical students and medical personnel to draw attention to this issue and discuss proposals to address it
Indicators of Success:
- IOS for the first objective – at least 80% of the participants will be fully aware about these diseases in Sudan and diagnosis and treatment protocol.
- IOS for the second objective – at least 50% participants will be Equipped with Advocacy skills
- IOS for the third objective – at least educate 800 from the community members Who are the most susceptible to these diseases.
- IOS for the 4th objective – at least provide 500 from the community members who are the most susceptible to these diseases with proper prevention tools
- IOS for the 5th objective – at least the number of seminar attendees 50 and the number of proposals and projects submitted reach 10 to solve this problem
Methodology:
Workshops: providing participants with the necessary knowledge to educate the targeted groups and work on the Campaign with strong knowledge base. Equipping the participants with Capacity building needed to conduct perfect performance during working on the outreach campaign.
Outreach: Raising Community awareness, delivered face to face to their places, also use Games and songs to instruct children how to do appropriate hygiene practice, provide community members with the proper prevention tools ( Mosquitoes net ect.)
- Online campaign: use media platforms effectively to draw people’s attention to this issues , promote the right concepts, gather people’s opinions and deliver information to as many people as possible at lowest cost , with creative visual representations for raise awareness.
Plans for evaluation:
- Send and report to whom it concern (WHO, and Sudanese Ministry of Health)
- Short Questionnaires measuring the knowledge of the targeted groups before and after the health education Convoy .
- Pre and post assessment forms in the workshop
External collaborations:
Sudan’s Ministry of Health ( government agencies ), supporting with workshops and speakers to teach medical student about this topic
