Problem statement:

Imagine this: You are in emergencies, and a dull deaf patient arrives (only knows how to sign), arrives alone and with abdominal pain … clearly, they never taught you the least in sign language. There you are, without communication, and with a patient who is probably dying. Situations that happen more often than you think, in colombia 14 years ago, the deaf population were the 1%, it means 50,000 people, and taking this into consideration, 5/10 have low economic resources.

Target groups:

General population, Medical students, Healthcare Students, Other Students, Doctors, Other health professionals, People with disabilities

Beneficiaries:

General population, Medical students, Healthcare Students, Other Students, Doctors, Other health professionals, People with disabilities

1. Promote a learning space for Colombian medical students, based on the attention of the deaf patient and assertive communication with them. For this, it is proposed the realization of face-to-face and / or virtual courses with the support of different Universities and Associations of the country, both of medical students and of the deaf community.Taking into account course exams and feedback methods In the participants we will get to know the true impact of what has been proposed.

2. By means of the implementation of images type infographics, to diminish the bad concepts and stigmas with respect to the deaf community, giving besides information for the community in mention, the medical and general community. This objective will be based on information provided by INSOR, serving as a bridge for an accurate knowledge, in addition to the use of the logo.

Methodology:

The activity will consist of different approaches, seeking awareness, teaching and generate content accessible to all communities.

1. Through gifs interpreters, we will modify our official website to make it accessible to the deaf community, allowing them to feel accepted and gain the visibility of an inclusive association.

2. Virtual and face-to-face courses of sign language.

3. In the long term, it is expected to conduct dialogues with the universities of Colombia to modify the curricular network, achieving the inclusion of sign language as a mandatory course focused on medical students.

4. In the short term, it is expected to sign an agreement between ASCEMCOL and our collaborators.

Plans for evaluation:

1. In conversations with the Institute, the first step of the objective has been achieved: A training will be provided in January for the ASCEMCOL Board of Directors, based on the approach of deaf patient care, supported through statistics and knowledge professional, being this, the first one happened for the generation of courses at national level. During this event, it is planned to perform a satisfaction test and what has been learned, taking it as a pilot test for the future.

2. Through continuous discussions with the Institute, the approval of the official logo has been achieved, so that the objective at the moment is 60% completed, the next step will be to publish the already designed infograms. 1. We will take into account the statistics of the publications on Facebook and Instagram, in this way we will try to assess the impact on networks and reach different populations.
