Problem statement:

The world we live in is in a state of instability which would affect us as human beings and  caused abuse and exploit to spread amongst humans especially the vulnerable populations.  In Tunisia, we have noticed that children are greatly endangered as they can barely express themselves or defend themselves at a very young age. And thus Associa-Med Tunisia decided to intervene and as medical students are more concerned about medical field.

Objectives:

1/ capacity building of members in matters of children’s rights to know how to advocate for this vulnerable population and submit their behavior and decision-making as future practitioners to a continuous evaluation based on human rights principles.

2/ Strengthen the skills of medical students regarding communication with the different categories and age groups of children and medical personnel to be more effective when conveying a message for them.

3/Increase community education and awareness about child abuse, including strategies for prevention, intervention and treatment.

4/ Recognize Associa-Med as a civil organization that defends child Rights , active in decision-making , side by side to different stakeholders .

5/ Equipping Medical personnel with the required capacities and informations to ensure their active participation in limiting child abuse by properly reporting any case of violence or exploit on children.

Indicators of Success:

1/ 20 Medical students well trained in children’s rights in its various fields, able to defend them and raise the awareness of other students, civilians and medical personnel.

2/ Associa-Med becomes even more known in child concerns :

*Collaborate with national and local associations in the field ( Association Innocence, ATDE, UNICEF,…)

*Work on social media presence ( create an event , share weekly posts …)

*Organize a conference to which we will be inviting many active organizations and associations in the field of children rights and take part in conferences held by them.

 

3/ 30 Medical students from different levels , to be well educated in legal frameworks, acquire practical skills on ethical communication in healthcare, emphasizing on the importance of care for fragile categories of patients like children .

4/ 80% of the addressed medical personnel completely capable of reporting in the most perfect ways any case of child abuse that they would encounter in their departments

Methodology:

1/ Building the capacities of 30 medical students in children’s rights, legal frameworks, duty to report, and ethical communication in healthcare through two separate training sessions.

2/ Raising the awareness of medical personnel in different pediatric departments in Hedi Chaker Hospital in Sfax ( more that 50 medical interns, residents, paramedics,.) through a mini seminar that would take place in  the pediatric emergency department.

3/ Organizing a conference that would reunite many active organizations in the field of children rights and discussing during it the problematic of child abuse in our hospitals.

4/ Organizing a mini festival for hospitalized children in the neuropediatrie and pedopsychiatry departements to cheer them up and get in direct contact with them and have a better idea about the conditions they live in.

Plans for evaluation:

* Baseline assessment through  a SWOT analysis; the need seemed urgent and a priority due to a lot of reasons

 * Post évaluation:

-measure the degree of satisfaction of  the participants,  gather their feedback and inputs by an evaluation form shared in the discussion group and the event .(satisfaction / choice of thematics / timeline / contributions …)

-Post evaluation form for the trainers ( proficiency and preparations / technics /the atmosphere…)

This project will be conducted in partnership with “Innocence Association” and with the support of our professors.
