General description:

The project was born as an initiative of the student representatives of the 3 universities of Cuenca, the University of Azuay, the University of Cuenca and the Catholic University of Cuenca, the objective of the project is to complement the basic knowledge of the medical student, by holding an inter-university congress which will have an academic value of 40 hours and the endorsement of the 3 universities of the city of Cuenca.

The congress will be focused on topics from different areas of medicine such as:

• Internal Medicine: management of chronic noncommunicable diseases. Medical training in undergraduate and postgraduate, diagnosis and treatment of pathologies with high local incidence.

• Mental health and bioethics: approach of relevant mental disorders, impact of medical-legal documents.

• Traumatology and surgery: basic and advanced care in emergency and trauma.

• Gynecology and pediatrics promotion of strategies to reduce risks of fetal maternal complications, socialization of relevant points, of the reform of the Organic Law of Health.

Problem statement:

Nowadays, medical students have been subject only to the knowledge learned at the university classrooms for our academic and professional training, limiting ourselves to information from bibliographies that are generally not updated or in accordance with new discoveries and innovations in medicine. Based on this problem, the three local organizations of the Azuay province, have proposed the challenge of carrying out an interuniversity medical congress which allows an update of knowledge in different areas of our career.

Target groups and beneficiaries:

Undergraduate and postgraduate medical students enrolled in the congress, because the topics to talk about will contribute to the acquisition and updating of knowledge in the academic and professional areas.
The long-term beneficiaries will be all those patients attended by doctors prepared with the latest updates.

Objectives and indicators of success:

General objective:
Train at least 300 medical students and health professionals in pediatrics, internal medicine and gynecology for a total of 40 hours on June 7, 8 and 9 of the year 2018.
Indicator: Minimum number of attendees 250.
Specific objectives:
● Achieve an attendance to the entire event of a minimum of 75% of those registered for the congress.
Indicator: check assistance, minimum 75%
● Bring together students and health professionals from different universities (University of Azuay, University of Cuenca and Catholic University of Cuenca) in the same event.
Indicator: have the presence of participants from the 3 universities.

Methodology:

Before the project

Obtain permission to use the City Hall in Cuenca, with capacity for 500 people.

Invite formally the selected specialists for each topic.

Obtain the academic endorsement of the different universities.

Registration will take place from May 15, 2018 to June 6, 2018.

Plans for evaluation:

At the end of each day students will be assessed online, those with a grade higher than 60% will receive an approved certificate and academic credits.

Students who do not reach 60% will receive certificate of participation.
