As awareness of global health expands, so does the realization that training and practice must be addressed in the complex interplay between many factors contributing to the health of individuals and communities. Addressing global health problems requires a broad range of participation from both healthcare-related and non-healthcare-related professions.
The International Association of Dental Students (IADS) was founded in 1951 in Copenhagen in order to serve the educational needs of dental students throughout the world. Representing the interests of more than 200,000 dental students in around 60 countries worldwide and having its central office at the FDI World Dental Federation headquarters in Geneva, the association strives for educational and scientific excellence throughout the international projects and initiatives it manages.
What is an IFMSA-IADS exchange?
This IFMSA-IADS Initiative comes as a collaboration with the International Association of Dental Students and would allow medical students interested in doing a specialty in Maxillofacial Surgery or other areas to get a bit of understanding of the dentistry departments and specializations. Meanwhile, IFMSA will allow dentist students to be involved in medical areas such as Traumatology, Otolaryngology, Emergency Medicine, Oral-maxillofacial surgery and others.
IFMSA NMOs involved in the initiative will send a medical student to IADS member organizations, while IADS member organizations will send dental students to IFMSA NMOs. These contracts will all be considered as bilateral exchanges, and the Exchange Conditions of the hosting NMOs/countries as well as other requirements of the NMOs, specified in contract forms, will be applied in all the cases.
