Type of the activity: Campaign. Combination of education and advocacy. Campaigns create awareness in society about a certain topic (education aspect) and try to funnel this awareness into pressure on the decision makers to adapt policies accordingly (advocacy aspect).

General description:

Esperanza project was successfully completed. With the consultations and examinations carried out, it was possible to know the health situation of venezuelans, which were observed cases of pneumonia and tuberculosis. It was also possible to promote prenatal examinations for pregnants, besides the prescription of medicines for the patients consulted.

In addition to this, a dynamic was also made with childrens about the proper brushing of the teeth. The project covered several needs of this risk group, and as a result, detected problems. Among these problems, food dependent donations, poor hygiene, insufficient health support, unemployment, and the fact that children do not attend school. Therefore, food and hygiene materials were donated to try to soften, at least temporarily, part of this context. In this way, the Esperanza project allowed the recognition of the risk situation of these Venezuelans trying to promote the improvement of the quality of life of this group.

Problem statement:

Today, the world suffers from crises of mass migration of people suffering persecutions of various natures, be they political, religious or financial. And this situation has repercussions also in Brazil, with the political crisis in Venezuela, which generates the intense migration of Venezuelans to other countries, especially the Warao Indians to Brazil, they suffer from other social ills such as begging, violence of various kinds, crime and lack of structures worthy of housing.

Objectives and indicators of success:

Provide medical care to Warao ethnic families;

Promote oral health education for refugees;

Regularization of refugee documentation;

To make health professionals aware of the situation of this population;

Encourage the implementation of activities focused on Human Rights within the health area.

Methodology:

The activities were divided into 4 days of attendance, as well as 2 days of training with medical, law and nursing students.

On the first day, there were recreational activities on dental hygiene, besides the donation of personal hygiene items and clothes. In the second, medical attention was given, with blood pressure measurement, BMI, waist circumference and request for exams. In the third, there was the return medical care, referrals and consultations of the natives who could not go on the first day of care, since

many need to beg to pay for the place where they live. On the fourth and final day of activities, the law academics, members of the Human Rights Clinic, made indigenous people aware of their rights and regularized their documents, such as the request for refuge.

Plans for evaluation:

Statistical data of how many indigenous venezuelans were attended, age, gender, health problems and continue the activity throughout the year.
