Name of the activity: donate blood , be a savior
Country/NMO: Morocco (IFMSA-Morocco)
Program: Organ, Marrow & Tissue Donation
Contact information: [email protected]
Type of the activity: Education
Focus area:
Blood donation
Problem statement:
In morocco, there is still a huge lack of blood in transfusion centers and hospitals, many times we see and hear calls from people trying to find blood for their famillies, unfortunatly people still lack awareness on the importance of such an act.
Target groups and beneficiaries:
target groups are mainly university students
beneficiaries are patients who will get blood, blood centers and hospitals.
Objectives and indicators of success:
increase the number of blood donations
raise awareness of university students on the importabce of blood donation
train and improve knowledge of medical students regarding blood donation
indicators:
number of students reached, number of medical students trained, and number of blood pins collected
Methodology:
We organise this event in all LCs at least one time per year in every LC, our members start by contacting blood center in their city, then agreeing on a target university and specific date, they also coordinate with the university about it.
Then our members take trainings about blood donation in order to improve their knowledge and skills and be able to talk and impact target students.
The day of the event, the blood center brings nurses, techniciens, and necessary materials, and our members start to set up the the place, then talk to students, explain to then the need and importance of blood donation, and invite them to donate.
Plans for evaluation:
we evaluate the activity by counting the number of blood pins that we have collected, counting the number of students that we were able to reach and interact with, also by testing our members’ knowledge after the trainings to see if there is any improvement.
