CRANBERRIES (Cervix and Breast Cancer, No More Worries)
Name of the activity: CRANBERRIES (Cervix and Breast Cancer, No More Worries)
Country/NMO: Indonesia (CIMSA-ISMKI)
Program: Healthy Lifestyles & Non-Communicable Diseases
Contact information: [email protected] (+628112652297)
Type of the activity: Education. Education on health issues for specific societal groups, either in the form of projects (set of tasks for a certain group over a fixed period of time), events (something notable that happens) or conferences (form meeting about ideas related to a particular topic, usually over several days).
General description:
The series of events began with LPET by inviting two speakers from the Indonesian Cancer Foundation. The first day was held in the form of ‘bonding and sharing’, which was moderated by one of SCORA CIMSA UI members at Rumah Singgah Peduli Jakarta and continued by writing messages to be placed in the wishing tree to be given to the shelter. On the second day, the speakers were invited by speakers from the Indonesian Cancer Foundation and continued by Focus Group Discussion with SCORA CIMSA UI members as facilitators to teach breast self-examination (breast examination) to the community and so that mothers are more free to ask questions. Activities are carried out with IVA examination for mothers who have received coupons and who are interested.
Focus area:
Cancer
Problem statement:
In Indonesia, breast and cervical cancer are ranked first as the cause of death for women. In fact, in DKI Jakarta at least one woman dies every one to two days due to cervical cancer. The diagnosis of both cancers is often too late, making it more difficult to treat. Lack of public awareness to check genital awareness, especially the cervix and to examine the breast as a preventive effort to prevent cervical cancer and breast cancer.
Target groups:
General population, Women
Beneficiaries:
General population, Medical students, Doctors, Women
Objectives and indicators of success:
Conducting counseling and examining cervical cancer with IVA in the Depok Kita Village area as an effort to increase public awareness and knowledge about the importance of early detection for cancer prevention in approximately 4 hours and by holding ‘bonding and sharing’ at Rumah Singgah Peduli Jakarta to better know the conditions and the story of cancer survivors within 4 hours.
Methodology:
Our objectives are to increase public awareness about early detection of breast cancer and cervical cancer, also provide public education about cervical cancer and breast cancer in general along with risk factors, hazards, and prevention efforts or treatment efforts. To achieve that, we have arranged activities targeted to the women of Depok Kita Village such as sharing, writing wishes to the shelter, discussing about the importance of breast and cervix examination yearly, and organizing an IVA examination for them.
Plans for evaluation:
The evaluation method is carried out internally by SCORA CIMSA UI and in general the evaluation is about the proximity of the making of the breakdown and technical instructions with the day of the event because it is difficult to find external parties who are willing to visit both the first day and the second day. From the evaluation, many impacts were obtained from this activity. The impact was an increase in knowledge from participants regarding breast cancer and cervical cancer obtained from the results of increased pre-test and post-test, as well as increased knowledge and abilities of SCORA CIMSA UI members in explaining cervical and breast cancer to the public. In addition, through the program results of the IVA examination, it was found that all participants had negative breast cancer, 3 positive IVA participants, and 1 participant had polyps.
