Course on Intercourse – Comprehensive Sexuality Education – Lithuania (LiMSA)

Name of the activity: Course on Intercourse – Comprehensive Sexuality Education

Country/NMO:Lithuania (LiMSA)

Program: Comprehensive Sexuality Education

Type of the activity: Campaign

General description:

Experienced trainers have organised 2 NPET trainings (9 hours each) open for LiMSA members including topics of Gender Based Violence, LGBT, Maternal Health and Access to Safe Abortion, Public Speaking Skills etc. The trainings are based mostly on IPET and include many interactive methods as well as discussion and members are encouraged to apply for the trainings even if they do not want to facilitate lessons in the future (although they are preferred during the selection) as many members of LiMSA have not received proper sexuality education in their respective high schools. After the trainings members visit high schools and facilitate trainings for various students including high schools and leisure centres. 2 LiMSA members have participated in NECSE as observers in order to gather more information about new methods and implement them in Lithuania. Also, a Lithuanian database of methods was created by NORA in order to facilitate the process of method research in the future.

Focus area:

Peer Education with adolescents and young people on a variety of topics pertaining to Sexual Health

Problem statement:

With the efforts of many NGOs of Lithuania, sexuality education is finally compulsory in the schools of Lithuania, however, the teachers have not received any kind of training and LiMSA still offers sexuality education lessons for students of various grades which are commonly requested by various institutions. As the majority of current LiMSA members did not have sexuality education lessons in their schools as well, the activity also serves both as proper training to help them fill in the learning gaps on the subject and to educate themselves.

Target groups and beneficiaries:

Medical students (members of LiMSA) and minorities under 18 y.o.

Objectives and indicators of success:

To have at least 2 NPETs
To train at least 30 members of LiMSA
To facilitate sexuality education lessons for at least 200 students
To create Lithuanian CSE method database
To have 2 LiMSA delegates participate in NECSE as observers in order to apply as a member next year

Methodology:

1) An OC was selected and prepared the programme of NPET. Each NPET is renewed and improved regarding to the evaluation of the participants fo previous NPETs. The programme must include topics such as GBV, MHASA and LGBTQ+.
2) A person responsible for the communication with organisations seeking sexuality education lessons was appointed by NORA; their inbox was set up and they facilitated the communication process;
3) After the trainings members visit high schools, juvenile crime centers, orphanages and other institutions that request the sexuality education lessons and facilitate them.
4) A database of Lithuanian CSE methods was created by NORA and is constantly improved by adding new methods;
5) Application to NECSE on the status of observers with the help of RAs in order to bring new methods to Lithuania and include them to future trainings.

Plans for evaluation:

The evaluation is collected after each NPET and used to improved the upcoming NPETs. Also, evaluation is collected in form of post-its after each lesson facilitated; new trainers also receive evaluation from experienced trainers ir order to help with their future performance.
