Call for Youth PreWHA Participants and WHA Delegates 2018

Dear IFMSA family,
We would like to announce the opening of the call for applications for one of the main global health events of the year, the annual World Health Assembly (WHA) and Youth PreWHA Workshop. The 71st WHA will be held from 21st to 26th May 2018, in Geneva, Switzerland. Attended by delegations from almost 200 Member States as well as recognized international NGOs and other partners, WHA is the annual gathering of the highest decision-making body of the World Health Organization. As in previous years, IFMSA will be organising a Youth PreWHA Workshop on Global Health Diplomacy and Governance from 16th to 20th May 2018, just before the WHA.
The Youth PreWHA is open to members of IFMSA National Member Organizations as well as other youth organizations from various disciplines, creating an interprofessional working environment. The workshop aims to empower and strengthen the advocacy skill set of future health leaders as well as increasing the participants’ knowledge about global health topics that are central to the 71st World Health Assembly. Furthermore, the event aims to improve the youth participation at the WHA and strengthen the voice of youth during global health negotiations.
In order to apply, prepare a candidature form signed and stamped by your NMO President and fill out the application form below. Deadline for applications is the 2nd December 2017, 23:59 GMT. Accepted applicants will be notified no later than 31st December 2017.
You can find the application form here: https://goo.gl/gkNtjZ.
You can download the candidature forms (CF) here (CF for NMOs and CF for Youth Organizations). You will be asked to upload the CF, so please prepare it before starting to fill out the application form.
It is expected that delegates will be able to attend both the PreWHA and the WHA.
The registration fee for the Youth PreWHA is being finalised as we confirm logistics. You will be alerted to the cost as soon as possible. This fee will cover all costs including food, accommodation and materials at the Youth PreWHA. Previous Youth PreWHA events have cost between 250 and 500 Euros. The Organizing Committee aims to organize accommodation during the World Health Assembly for interested delegates, but rates and availability are not yet known – it may be anywhere from 250-400 Euros. More information on this will be shared with accepted applicants.
Accepted applicants will need to register through a dedicated registration form in which they provide more practical information and make payment directly. More information regarding final registration will be shared with accepted applicants.
Participants of the Youth PreWHA Workshop are expected to fully commit to the event’s preparations, contribute to the implementation of the advocacy strategy that will be developed during PreWHA, and sustain involvement during the post-WHA follow-up. This will include readings, online meetings and preparatory projects. Delegates are expected to commit some time in the leadup to the WHA, including some online meetings between January to May, commit to completing pre-event reading and spend some time preparing statements and organising WHA scheduling pre-event, which may involve a time commitment of up to two hours per week in the leadup to May.
