The Training Disaster Medicine Trainers coordination team is excited to announce that the call for participants for the 2025 Training Disaster Medicine Trainers (TdmT 2025) course is now open!
Background Information
Do you dream about working in disaster settings? Are you interested in playing an active role in emergencies and disasters? Do you want to learn how to deliver healthcare when the needs exceed the resources?
- The Training Disaster Medicine Trainers (TdmT) is an international program developed by the International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations (IFMSA) together with CRIMEDIM, Center for Research and Training in Disaster Medicine, Humanitarian Aid and Global Health at the University of Piemonte Orientale in Novara, Italy.
- It aims to provide medical students with theoretical knowledge and basic skills in Disaster Medicine and Global Health, including key topics like complex humanitarian emergencies and disaster risk management, diving into a deeper exploration of health system resilience, mental health in disaster and international emergency response.
- The 2025 TdmT course will consist of a three-month self-paced online phase and an in-person residential phase in Novara, Italy.
- The course will consist of a three-month long online self-paced phase followed by a live participation phase, held live this year, from the 6th to 11th (arrival day plus 5 working days) in July 2025, of approximately 45 working hours.
- During the live participation phase of the course, there will be classes with both conventional and innovative teaching strategies. Students will learn from experts in emergency medicine and related fields. There will also be live simulations to apply the knowledge acquired in both the asynchronous and residential phases.
- Students will participate in immersive simulations that teach disaster response in realistic settings, while refining teaching techniques to train future disaster responders.
- Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be awarded the IFMSA-CRIMEDIM Disaster Medicine Trainer certification.
What to do if you are interested?
If you want to attend the TdmT, you can apply through the following application form. The application deadline is 23:59 GMT on February 16th, 2025.
- Please note that late applications will not be considered.
- Please note that selected students must fulfil the course’s online and live participation phases to graduate.
- We will communicate the deadlines for payment and cancellation after the selection.
- For those who require an entry visa to Italy, invitation letters will be provided after the selection to start the visa procedures.
- You will hear back regarding the selection results by around the 2nd week of March 2025.
Important notes about TdmT 2025
- There will be 30 spots selected jointly by CRIMEDIM and IFMSA.
- The selection will be based on motivation, experience, and plans to use the knowledge gained through the course. Gender and regional representation will also be considered.
- Timeline of the course
- Self-paced phase: April – June, 2025
- Live in-person residential course: 7-11th July, 2025
- A total of 45 working hours in duration.
- Sunday 6th, July is the arrival day, and will not have sessions.
- Sessions will be held daily from Monday 7th to Friday 11th, July
- Cost: This year, the TdmT course will cost 490 euros — this will cover 5 nights of accommodation in Novara, Italy (check-in on Sunday 6th July, check-out on Friday 11th July). No profits are made for any of the two organisations out of this project. The fees will only cover boarding (specifically breakfast and lunch, excluding dinners) and lodging of participants for 5 nights, sharing double or triple rooms, alongside reimbursement to external speakers and experts. Travels to and from Novara are not included.
- Having checked with CRIMEDIM, the centre or the university cannot grant scholarships. However, you can seek grants from your universities, hospitals or other programs if selected.

TdmT 2025 Open Space Discussion
An open space discussion will take place (date TBC) to provide an overview of the course and for you to ask any questions about the application process. Previous TdmT participants and staff from CRIMEDIM will be present to share their experiences and address your questions about content and logistics.
