Contact information: [email protected]
Type of the activity: Education. Education on health issues for specific societal groups, either in the form of projects (set of tasks for a certain group over a fixed period of time), events (something notable that happens) or conferences (form meeting about ideas related to a particular topic, usually over several days).
General description:
Electrocardiogram (ECG) is considered as a main diagnostic tool, interpretation of it’s results helpful in establishing the diagnose of cardiac and even respiratory conditions.
Our goals of this program is to make students able to:
1. Understand the main basis of the heart’s electricity.
2. Identify and understand the basics of ECG parts.
3. Reporting ECG in adequate and clinical manner.
4. Determine the Normal ECG and normal variations in healthy individuals.
5. Diagnosis of common heart diseases through ECG.
This activity will be continued and provided annually until the implementation of ECG in the college curriculum is guaranteed and medical students become competent and able to interpret the common and urgent cases .
Focus area:
Diagnostic tests interpretation
Problem statement:
Electrocardiogram (ECG) is considered as a main diagnostic tool, interpretation of it’s results helpful in establishing the diagnose of cardiac and even respiratory conditions. In our LC, we are facing the following:
1. ECG isn’t involved in the curriculum adequately.
2. Inefficient practice for delivering the materials.
3. Teaching of ECG is classic, in which the medical student isn’t involved.
4. Lecture of ECG is not relevant regarding the cases the students observe in the daily-basis.
Target groups:
Medical students
Beneficiaries:
Medical students
Objectives and indicators of success:
After the end of this course the students should be able to:
1. Understand the main basis of the heart’s electricity.
Success indicators: quiz 75% of answers are correct.
2. Identify and understand the basics of ECG parts; Rate, Rhythm, Axis, Intervals, segments and waves.
Success indicators: quiz 75% of answers are correct.
3. Reporting ECG in adequate and clinical manner.
Success indicators: quiz 75% of answers are correct.
4. Determine the Normal ECG and normal variations in healthy individuals.
Success indicators: quiz 75% of answers are correct.
5. Diagnosis of common heart diseases through ECG, including;
– Acute Coronary Diseases (The distinction between types of Coronary artery diseases by ECG).
– Pericarditis
– Cardiomyopathy
– Arrhythmia
– Distinguish between similar heart diseases likes ACD and pericarditis
Success indicators: quiz 75% of answers are correct.
Methodology:
We demonstrate this course in a clinical manner which provide an interesting and active presentation of the course.
– First: preparing materials and tools for the campaign including;
1. Projector.
2. Whiteboard.
3. Markers
4. Flip charts
5. Papers.
6. Beverages.
– Second: Pre-course Survey distributed to evaluate and determine the level of the students understanding and give them 15 minutes for answering.
– Third: Lecture of 3 hours with a break in between.
– Fourth: Post-course Survey distributed to evaluate and determine the level of the students understanding and give them 15 minutes for answering.
Plans for evaluation:
– A self-administrated questionnaire propagated into the participants and they will be asked about:
1. Their opinion of this workshop
2. How this workshop affects their understanding and interpretation of ECG.
3. Attendance of (80%) of registered participants.
