After the health being successfully added into the Elements Text by the end of the yesterday’s morning session, we are now working on keeping our energy levels high and bring our stakeholders with us.
This morning, we have started the day with a technical briefing on Climate Change and Health organized by the WHO. IFMSA had a panelist, one of our delegates Charlotte Holm-Hansen, who presented the work of youth in this area over the past few years. The session had many country representatives, NGOs working on Climate and Health, as well as other WHO representatives. We tried to take the link between these two sectors further and engage the audience with us in upcoming Paris 2015 agreement. The feedback from the participants was very positive and we got a strong feeling that it will finally represent a support from the negotiators side.
As we mentioned on yesterday’s post, we have been working with YOUNGO – the youth constituency within UNFCCC. And today was a very important day, as civil society had the chance to meet the Secretariat and get clarifications on the way forward and our inclusion in the process.
We also updated our policy document on climate change and further shared it with parties. And evidence is showing that it the list of the climate-health supporters is growing each day. Venezuela even mentioned that the “document in top of our tables” mentioning “health” should make Parties go back home and further discuss other perspectives of this agreement. And they were referring to nothing less but the IFMSA ADP 2.8 Policy Brief.
Additionally we keep having a few bilateral meetings with other specific Parties to discuss health and how it aligned with their priorities. We are currently working on making more contacts with negotiators and planning on how to approach them.
While there are busy days ahead, we are looking forward to many productive ones.
