Talks for brains is a conference that adopt the same concept as TED talks, where brilliant speakers from different fields (medicine, architecture, IT…) will be invited, they will try to spread new ideas about topics rarely delivered during the medical student curriculum.

Focus area:

Medical Students Empowerment

Problem statement:

At some point in our university studies, students tend to focus only on what was given during the lectures and neglect researching about new thing and enhancing their knowledge in different fields. Moreover, we noticed the lack of collaboration between doctors and professionals from other fields in order to improve the medical care

Target groups and beneficiaries:

Our project targets medical students in the first place and students from other fields, because students of today will be doctors and decision makers of tomorrow in order to improve the health care conditions for patients in the future.

Objectives and indicators of success:

Specific: Give students the chance to see science from a new perspective and eventually make them more curious about researches.
Measurable: Targeting 200 students for the first and 400 for the next edition.
Achievable: Make this event a SCOME tradition after finding a financial resource.
Realistic: Change students’ attitude and create a new vision of our country and the world.
Time bound:Organize this conference every year to reach maximum of students.

Methodology:

The first edition of « Talks for brains » took place the 10th of May 2018, It was a serie of seven talks presented by professionals from different fields: IT, hypnotherapist, doctors… to explain how medicine can be related to other domains. Students were given the chance to interact with the speakers and ask questions.
The team worked on Promoting the event on social media, contact speakers, look for a sponsor and guarantee the good proceeding of theevent.

Plans for evaluation:

The evaluation of the conference was based on sending post-conference survey to the participants. The survey contained question concerning, thespeakers, the logistics and most important what students have learnt from the conference and weather they understood the importance of collaboration between medicine and other fields.
