General description:

INcommunity is a 4-week summer internship in one of these milieus: Law Offenders, First Nations, Inner city, Women’s Health, and Migrants. It is an exceptional opportunity to increase the participants’ knowledge about marginalized populations.

Focus area:

Vulnerable or marginalized populations | Indigenous populations

Problem statement:

Whenever we think about vulnerable or marginalized populations, we think abroad. But we forget that we have our own vulnerable populations at home. This internship program aims to put in relation medical students with our local vulnerable population.

Target groups and beneficiaries:

INcommunity is an immersion in neglected populations for pre-clinical medical students. Although we hope our students can be useful in the internship, our goal is to educate and sensitize our medical population about the reality surrounding us. In the end, we want our future medical professionals to be more aware of the needs of the more vulnerable populations, usually the ones that need the most care. And we want to break the prejudices and discrimination that are common to these populations.

Objectives and indicators of success:

– Send at least as much students as the year before.
– Give a pre-internship formation to our students that is appreciated by the participants.
– Get positive feedback from the internship organizers.
– Be sure that the students sent in internship appreciate and learn from the experience.

Methodology:

INcommunity is a 4-week summer internship in one of these milieus: Law Offenders, First Nations, Inner city, Women’s Health, and Migrants. It is an exceptional opportunity to increase the participants’ knowledge about marginalized populations.

Plans for evaluation:

– Survey to our students after the pre-internship formation.
– Send a survey to the internship organizers.
– Collect a feedback from our participants after the internship.
