Name of the activity: Blood Donation Campaigns

Country/NMO: Egypt (IFMSA-Egypt)

Program: Organ, Marrow & Tissue Donation

Contact information: [email protected]

Type of the activity: Campaign

Focus area:

Blood donation

Problem statement:

It’s very obvious that Egyptian hospitals, especially governmental ones are in deep need to blood bags. We have lots of patients needing daily blood transfusion, so we should raise awareness about blood donation to contribute in saving those people.

Target groups and beneficiaries:

Target Group:
200-300 university students per campaign “as some LCs launch campaigns in non-medical faculties”

Beneficiaries:
300 patients per campaign who need blood transfusion
200-300 university students per campaign.

Objectives and indicators of success:

Obj 1: Raising awareness about blood donation importance among 200-300 students in each faculty or LC.
Success Indicator: counting the targeted students and the donating and ones and comparing the numbers. If the ratio is at least 1: 3, it’ll be a successful campaign.

Obj 2: Collecting around 35 blood bags per campaign in each faculty or LC.
Success Indicator: counting the valid blood bags in each campaign.

Methodology:

1- Establishing partnership with a blood bank, preferably the university’s one.
2- Call for team members.
3- Launching an online campaign clarifying the importance of blood donation, benefits of donation and live experiences of blood donars.
4- Launching physical donation campaigns in faculties campuses.
5- Delivering lab tests results for HBV and HCV to the blood donars afterwards.

Plans for evaluation:

There are multiple evaluation forms distributed among team members, blood donars and the campaign coordinators’ assistants in each LC.

Then the local officer and the local coordinator should fill an evaluation report at the end of the campaign.
